I'm going to be starting in near future to produce replacement fibreglass bodywork for 'our' bikes. Initially starting with LC / TZR stuff and Suzi GS. I'm going to be producing a few prototype show pieces hopefully in time for Vic Club winter series. At the same time, I've been talking to a signwriter that does work for me about producing decals for tanks, side panels etc, so I'm doing some research on viability so we can do some costings. With this setup, I could offer decals seperately or with the fibreglass, either loose or already fitted. Fibreglass could be supplied plain white, coloured OR painted. I'll be talking to a few bike clubs and putting word around others that I know so any feedback from you guys would be appreciated. Also if you wouldn't mind asking around people YOU know and generally spreading the word
This is going well !
I think there's a need for this service, but it's limited. People won't need decals until they finally decide to give their old girl a real birthday treat. I certainly will approach you when I need new decals on my spare 850, but that wont be until next year. I could probably source decals off the net, but they would be NOS items, and up to 30 years old. Your offer of fiberglass replacement covers should be a goer, especially for some of the older classics. Good luck with your venture.
Another thing to consider is replacement seat pans. A lot of our stuff was made of steel and like the mighty CXs one is well overdue for replacement. I know EuroDave down in ChCh does them and may be able to help in some way as well.
Norton Side covers are in demand I hear...................................
Check Trademe before making moulds Yorkie. I know Guzzi Mk1 &2 sidecovers seat bases etc are already being done, Norton Commando as well. As Bonez said, Dave Morris, he has bought a few originals off me to replicate and has a massive range to choose from. He can be a bit hard to deal with though. Also Hamilton fibreglass do many fairings and tanks etc. Then check Ebay because once the chinks start making them you will not be able to compete. And a lot of people screw local manufacturers and go buy stuff straight overseas to save 50 cents. Volty has a mate who does signwriting and apparantly there is a website you can join that has mega transfer jpgs and all you need is membership and a vinyl cutter/printer then you can do anything as can any signwriter so you would have to compete with them as well and the gear ain't cheap... I don't mean to burst your bubble Yorkie, just saying it like it is.
Norton Side covers are in demand I hear................................... .....one day...but its not like they are hard to get....almost every Commando part is made by Norton or remade somewhere..
, Dave Morris, he has bought a few originals off me to replicate and has a massive range to choose from. He can be a bit hard to deal with though. Dave Morris? you mean Dave Sewell (Eurodave) The only hard part I find is he can be a bit slow, of course it helps living in the same city and knowing where he lives Don't ever tell him you're not in a hurry, tell him when you want it and start ringing him the week before it's due
This dude--- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-363447680.htm He is from Invercargill, same place innit? I ment to say as well as Eurodave, tis another Dave...
I tried dealing with that guy in Invercargill with no luck.Eurodave was slow alright, but I was in no hurry and was more than happy with the result.
Seems Dave from Invercargel wants out of the fibreglass business- http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-fa...-350004332.htm
All inside a 40" container, bargin. Hey I could relocate that to my place, pity about my allergy to that shit...
Awesome, thanks guys. I'll have a think and decide what to do. May look at concentrating on race stuff (post classic) and one off's. I will be doing some stuff for my own projects. If anyone does want anything, let me know and I'd be happy to do. Why is no-one interested in specials here? Back home it's a real boom part of the scene but you never really see anything here.
Certainly opens up the market for our yorky.
Dave Morris races classic bikes down there, he is (or was) an MNZ steward as well
