My main issue with speed limits is the 10k allowance.....i followed a cop car down the motorway last week and we were both doing 109.9km....happys as....but if i had done 110 i would receive a ticket....and the ticket would be for exceeding 100km....not 110........meaning my fine, the points loss etc are all related to a speed i am "allowed to go".........i.e between 100 and 110.......i think the law should be changed and the minimum changed to 60km and 110km...then there would be no tolerance after that....and the fines and points start at the legal limit...not some discretionary figure...........
10% tolerance, which would give 55kmh urban and 110 elsewhere , I feel 60kmh is to fast in urban areas, although personally I think we should have 120kmh on 4 lane highways
well thats another issue...some stretches of road swap from 50 to 60 to 80 in a one k stretch, do we get fined for exceeding 55km in a 50km zone?
in ozzy they have a 3km tolerance that is about to go to 0 bugger if ya speedo is out
and i agree with 0 tolerance if the limits are reasonable......like 60km for instance.......everyone drives at 59 anyway.....
Even back in 1976 when Guzzi first brought out the instruments fitted from then to 1982 road testers were complaining about the woeful inaccuacy of the speedometer, listing it at between 10-20mph out at 100mph. Convert that into kms and I have not got a chance at staying exactly 100km/h, I mean the needle fluctuates 5mph at 60mph and who knows what 60mph on my speedo is anyway. As a diligent owner I got the speedo fully rebuilt and new cogs and spindles as well as the cosmetic stuff, still not accurate though. If 100km/h is 64mph even that is hard to stick on because graduations are 10mph apart and the needle flutters 5mph... no hope... don't even get me started on the Norton- that speedo reads whatever it wants it to and again in mph. dooomed... no speeding tickets for the last 8 years... it's only a matter of time, the net is tightening up on my old bikes. 2 speeding tickets Vs cheap rego does not pan out to a saving.
120kmph on 4 lane highways.....on the southern motorway it varies from 80kmph to over 130 kmph....in any lane. For a lot of Auckland drivers any speed is unsafe....
no no no....not getting it people.......no one will get a ticket from the police for doing 59kph in a 50kph zone (as a general rule)...yet if you do 61kph...you will get a ticket.....for exceeding the limit by 11kph......that is the crux of my whole issue.
bit pointless having 'limits' then having an " allowance" ....110 becomes the norm....115 if you keep an eye out..... I see more and more peeps on the phone and texting and very poor driving on the motorway....exiting from the outside or middle lane at the last moment would be top of my list......that and the U turn..... bring back the MOT.... I got two speeding tickets in a week once from them....in a 1200 cc VW....these days they'd have a field day.
i totally agree.......although...i understand the kiwi Psyche.....aggressive......so i don't really have an issue with the lane cutters...it gives others a chance to block them.....all part of the game.....i drive every day into town from the south....four lanes of traffic....when you reach newmarket it becomes a free for all....i am generally in the outside lane.....i need to be in the symonds street lane....i have occasionally done a four lane "swoop".....and arrived at the symonds street off ramp with meters to spare.....much fun......although as a rule i get into the right place...just sometimes the traffic hinders this....
I rode for 110 open road kms today and never went over 50mph, of course the guy on Ze BMW may contest that, but that is what the speedo said
you rode today?...was that a sanctioned ride?.....seems to me the Poms are getting into their old ways of separatism.....whites this side...blacks (or is that Japs) the other.......
''I was doing the same speed as him sir...'' Although not the same revs, listening to the Norton pull away, the R65 was another gear or 2 down...I thought I was on a 4 cyl.
was that a sanctioned ride?..... spontaneous ride.....one minute I was sanding a car..next pulling on leathers.....
Impromtu last minute thing. Motu, the Norton never cracked more than 4000rpm, didn't need to. It is a torque-monster
