I briefly followed a brand new truck on the motorway earlier in the week, belonging to one of the waste collection companies. It had the recycling emblem prominently displayed on the sides and rear with the words "reduce, reuse and recycle" below. It occurred to me: why didn't they fix the old truck, instead of buying a new one? Why don't the tax laws encourage businesses to own and maintain vehicles long term instead of making it more attractive to buy new from an environmental perspective? Likewise why aren't the public encouraged to do the same, considering the large amounts of energy and resources which are consumed in the production of new vehicles? Just thinking out loud . . . .
We can't do that,it makes too much sense. We import used crap from Japan,we get it cheap because they don't pass their regs anymore. Then we shut down our own production manufacturers to keep unemployment up. Soli Felofasofa worked for Nissan building cars for 25 years, now he has been retained as a computer technician.
Bah! If we didn't have new vehicles there wouldn't be such a thing as old ones. Personally glad most of the old Pom crap has been recycled.
I'm with you Max, no way am I trading my VW T4 for a poxy T5...
Yeah, yeah, I know I've done the same thing that I'm criticising, by trading my company vehicles every few years too. From a business owner's perspective I'll acknowledge that it makes sense under the present tax structure, and the appeal of a factory warranty is strong too, although to be honest it's never helped me much. I suppose I was struck by the oxymoron of seeing the recycling blurb on a brand new truck.
Rest easy in knowing that the new truck was manufactured from recycled trucks.
I like how quick everybody is to blame " someone" over the container ship running aground.....maybe all the cheap stuff we import should have an 'Ecological Tax' slapped on so as we can have a full on recovery team on stand by for this once in a decade event. As usual its the Gummermint that should fork out......aka Euan Mee.
Latest Tui billboard on the mway at Ellerslie: "Hey Captain, I know a shortcut to port", lol.
If we all went back to horse 'n cart we wouldn't need no sticken oil.
I watched a program on oil and it started out a by product from kerosene for lighting and cooking in the States....then they found a use for the by product...them there horseless carriages.....the rest is history.
So it's not Jed Glampets fault?
Jeez Bones...the young fallas like Wickle and DD won't know what your on about..... Black and white......none of the colour crap.
Hey Volty, a great series that had quite a cult following in the day.............. I always appreciate it when Americans can take the piss out of themselves. It was and still is a pretty rare occurance.
We are all into preserving our bikes long after common sense says they should be replaced. Well, I'm speaking for myself anyway. Doubt I could handle those new fangled things with disc brakes. One of my clients has 4 containers of meat on that ship.......
One of my clients has 4 containers of meat on that ship...... . May I suggest he now has 4 containers of A-grade maggots?
