Hi guys, have'nt posted much here lately but read most days. Just wondering if anyone has had the same and can advise. Just lost my licence for 12 months 2 weeks ago.........no, not piss related Medical. Been crook most of the year so basically the last time I rode was the Classic event in Feb. Doc's supposedly could'nt find anything cept to want to dish out pills etc. Anyway, had the bikes regos on hold till this month, go and rego them, then next thing I'm waking up in ICU Hastings hospital. Long story short 2 neuro blokes and GP said amongst other things, no driving for 12months. But no one has come to get my licence, nor have I had a letter saying not to drive. However there is a document in the LTSA rule saying that because of my new found condition it's a 12 months stand down. So what goes, is it a 'gentleman's agreement??' BTY I am aware of the seriousness of driving with my condition even though I feel best I have for a few months. The wife has been carting me around and I'm getting by, but most weekends look housebound while she's out riding horses. It will be 20 months since I last rode a bike when I get my licence back unless I have more problems, then the 12 months start again!!! Does anyone know the protocol over this, will I get a letter, licence seizure etc. Oh, I also PM 2 well known cops on here to see what the legal point is and if they knew and they have'nt had the decency to reply after several days to my PM Cheers Tony
Wouldn't have a clue about the legalities Tony, but your insurance company might get a bit dark if you unexpectedly had to make a claim while under doctors' orders not to drive/ride. It sucks that your health has taken so long to come right. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be for you. Hope you are able to beat this thing soon.
Hi Dooly. A bugger to hear about your condition, but at least you are still with us. From what happened with a friend, I gather your doc will have to lodge your file and then the wheels start turning. In his case, his doc did not go any further than saying not to drive. I have an idea that Edbear on the main forum went through this. He may have the right info on the process. In the meantime why not ride the horses too, unless (like me) you can't stand the bastards.
I can't help either, but my Mums doctor told her not to drive but it wasn't binding as the authorities were'nt informed. +1 with Max on it sucks. I see that your avatars bike was up for auction from Happy Days..... a Triumph Trophy....turns out he could not ride a motorcycle...hated them....how cool is that... maybe if you changed yours to Marlon Brando...he rode his Triumph. All the best.
I must admit that when told about the driving, it went in one then out and I did'nt pursue it much but now.............can't even get a work licence like the drunks, so i'm worse off despite no crime being committed. Yep, I can imagine insurance being a nightmare if issues develop when driving. Horses are'nt my thing so wont be going down that track. I have appointments with neuros specialists next week so will get a bit more into it but have to write things down more now as the brain is fried lol Perfect timing to get an old Guzzi or similar to do up eh Might PM Edbear too. Cheers guys.
Definitely pm Ed, he will know,as for those other two rowdy coppers from down in the Mainland they will reply, they aint bad buggers really.Chin up there Dooly and keep at those medico's.
I would think it is not really linked.....the only issue would be insurance if you did have an accident...I don't beleive they will actually take away your licience, as far as i know only the police can do tht. best of luck with it, my enforced break from driving was the longest month of my life...don't know how you will stand 12 months!!...you might need PS3 motogp so you can feel like your riding....
sorry to hear that tony... haven't heard of med related licence suspensions before so no can help there... but good luck recovering fully and quickly !
Hey Tony..............sorry to hear of your health issues. That neuro stuff is scary shit. I was going to offer you a ride as pillion, but I guess that's just as dangerous as being the rider! Will pop out and see you this Sunday.
yeah sorry to hear of ya health issues Tony...........all the best for a speedy recovery and maybe join you for a ride round HB sometime instead of chasin you fellas in the van......cheers James........and as luck would have it.............i have an old Guzzi.........bit of trouble with the seals i believe.............and i dig ya DS.............perhaps we could cut a deal if you have no luck sellin it
Col, I just bought a diff seal for one of my bikes.....$18 Tony- sorry to hear your still going with the health issues- premo time to do a restoration. I did my Mk1 when I had the broken pelvis and other minor stuff, helped keep me focused and gave purpose.
Cheers for the advice guys, its helped. Mind you if I lived in town it would'nt be so bad, but ................naaa Managing a garage will have it's issues, but thats what employees are for, mind you a quick blat up the road to do WOFs has been happening. Yep Colin, the SS is up for sale, can't stand looking at it now that I can't use it. It will be 20 months till next usage and 2 yrs for the 675 Daytona with only 1000ks on it, but will keep that. Maybe a deal on your Guzzi, dunno.......... Can still do trackdays I spose, gotta get some use out of the Trumpy.
cheers Mike............yeah i know .....im a slack prick............all about priorities son..............and i got a stack of them in front of the MK3 sadly
ya DS is a sweet lookin set of wheels Tony.............i doubt you will have trouble sellin it mate but if you do i'd be happy to work something out with ya.....
If they (LTNZ) are revoking your licence, they will have to serve a notice on you, officially informing you of that fact, they will also require you to physically surrender your licence. Until that happens you have a drivers licence and can legally drive. LTNZ will have to require you to undergo a medical exam in the first place anyway, you will know when it happens! Of course it may well be good advice fro you to follow your doctors advice! But getting your licence suspended by the LTNZ is not an arbitrary process that you find out about by chance, or casually mentioned by your doc. Get well soon!
