"Give Way" road rules coming into force at 5.00am on 25 March 2012. The key changes Change 1: The left-turn vs. right-turn rule All traffic turning right must give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction and turning left Change 2: At uncontrolled T-intersections All traffic from a terminating road (bottom of the T) will have to give way to all traffic on a continuing road (top of the T). This rule change will also apply to uncontrolled driveways, such as at a supermarket, hospital or a house (traffic exiting a driveway will need to give way to all traffic on the road). If you require any further information you can visit the website www.giveway.govt.nz or you can call the NZTA's Contact Centre on 0800 656 055.
Can't the yoof of today think of anyfink new....just remakes, remakes, remakes.....I can't recall the change to the current law being a major....but then we didn't have the innernet and digital video to give to what passes as news on the TV.......codger rant over....now where did I leave my slippers....
and now we'll be in line with ALL of the rest of the world... but i will miss living in the ONLY country in the world that still had that weird right-hand whatever give way rule that most immigrants never observed anyway (me excluded)
The Spanish and French have some equally stupid road rules.....seems to get worse the futher South in Europe you go.... .....I rode around Istanbul on a couple of occasions that was ....er interesting...
lol, true that... i got lost once in france because i just crossed the border from switzerland - and all euro countries i've been too before have motorways signs in green and other roads signs in blue (germany, austria, croatia, slovenia, check republic, italy, etc etc) - same as in nz really - - so i stayed on the green marked road - only to find out that in france they have it in reverse - blue is for motorways and green for country roads... oh well, instead of getting directly to Geneve, i first got to see a very cute lil medival city of Anecy by the time you get to istanbul... well, i wouldn't call it 'road rules' there any more... maybe "habits" lol. intersection with 4 lanes in each direction (ie 16 lanes all up) and NO traffic lights
poland was my favourite though... very good roads and practically no traffic (execpt for a few "Trabant" 2-stroke cars...) OK OK, and an ocassional military tank
Romania was my fav, we crossed from Bulgaria across the Danube into Romania and most of the traffic was horse and cart.....the kids counted over 100 in an hour....amazing as it was 2004. I hear now the EU are trying to ban them....bossy lot those Belgians....
yeah it's all changing now with that global village s**t, everythings starting to look like everything else, not much regional caracter anywhere anymore ... first time i was in singapore - landed on the airport and got directly into the subway (which was really cool that the subway has a station AT the airport building) - then got out for my destination after a few stops - all excited to see what i find as the subway "surfaced" - and what do i find first ? - Starbucks!
C'mon...everybody wants to be American ...don't they?...... Nothing like pulling up to Maccers in you horse and cart....
lol yeah like when on tv you see kids in some african tribes dying of malnutrition and simple diseases but they wear nike tops and there's discarded plastic coca cola bottles on the ground
so the new give way rule is olny used if in sight of a starbucks /McDs or coke sign ???? Most people in america dont kown there is a world out there beyond the USA
every thread here gets turned into a "back in my day son" trip down memory lane......... the yanks are wonderful people and yes some don't know much about the outside world but we ain't much better....ever asked your kid who the president is or who the prime minister is for that matter.......
That is so true.. every thread here gets turned into a "back in my day son" trip down memory lane......... . I dived for years until I was attacked by sharks of Motiti Island.
What happened? you hold up a sign saying " I give in" and they left you alone? Damn, a wooden legged Volty mighta bin kinda ineresting.
I don't use road rules, so the new laws are just the same as the old ones to me. On a motorcycle I give way to anything, regardless if I'm in the right or not. In my car everyone gives way to me - you can see their mind working...''What a heap of shit,I bet he hasn't even got 3rd party - I better give way to him.''
