Well, I have to amit that i have very little luck when it comes to Yamahas, all the yamahas that I have owned have caused me trouble,
1991 Yamaha SR 250- constantly breaking down, spent more time in the shop than on the road.
1975 Yamaha R5 350- brought to fix it up, would only work when it wanted to.
1988 Yamaha XZ 400- need i say more.
1985 Yamaha XJ750RL- Netural light works some of the time, choke is fully on or off, doesn't start when it is cold, gets the slow speed wobble.

You would think that i have learnt my lesson by now, guess i am forever hopeful.

LOL!!......come on now wolf......none of them are exactly new so you would expect to have the odd issue.......if you want a trouble free bike try something post 2000.....having said that there is a lot of luck involved in buying any older bike....

Shit only one of em is older than the coal burner and when shes running she always runs. Starts easy runs well, never been any different. My old XS 400 was the same, had all the breeds, though gay Nondas might be best build etc I'd go Yammy any day.

Yeah, but my Yamaha digital piano has an intermittent oil leak, and is sometimes hard to start . . . .

What I liked about Yamaha's was the interchangeability of parts across the product range. Front ends, wheels etc, just pick and mix.

82 xs650, reliable, but vibrated a lot, almost always had some problem somewhere if I rode it some distance.
83 xs750, smoother, from cold it either started straight away or 10 minutes later.
82 sr500, slow, pleasant to ride at sedate speeds, if revved highly enough, it transformed into a 'stationary piston bike' (piston stays still, everything else revolves around it.
    74 RD350, had a jekyall & hyde menta

74 RD350, had a jekyall & hyde mentality, no power under 5000rpm, full on over it.
78 RD400, much more civilised than the 350, still lously fuel economy thou
86 SRX600, went OK until top gear wore out & a fragment off this ruined a main bearing, nervous handling, prone to bump steer when leaned over.

    1980ish XT250, gold rims blingbling.
Used to idle nicely until the lights turned green, touch the throttle and it would cough and stall.
Kick, kick, kick until the lights turned red again and then it would start. Repeat.
I was so impressed i sold that and bought my Commando.
