Friday started off in Auckland with rain, I took the Norton into Drury Tyres to get a new rear, while that was being done it poured down......oh yay what a great weekend its going to be..... Rained on and off until Taumarunui where I parked up and waited for the Napier lads to arrive....good news was you can get a flat white and paninni there....
A really, really great weekend .... great riding and great company ... where are we going to next? Rhys
We found a cool new road today, passed thru Ohura..... http://www.ohurastateprison.co.nz/index.html
Friday dawned in the Bay a cracker, Dieseldick an myself headed over the Gentle Annie the road is not standing up to the amount of heavy transport now using it with many of them cutting in on the corners scattering light metal over the road. Across the top of the plateau we struck heavy rain an wind , knocking 20/30 k of our top speed.we headed north skipping showers . while having lunch it pissed down again, cutting up thru National Park we seemed to dodge the showers again till just arriving at Tamurnui , hooking up with John for the ride down to Whanga. a great riding day on Saturday and a good ride home today , great weekend sorry the rest of you missed this one! see John what happens on trips stay's on the trip. ( ps i can be brided)
Great roads and great company. Thanks for sharing the experience guys. It's true................................... what happens in Whanga, stay's in Whanga. To be fair, none of us was spared experiencing at least one senior moment..................... some were greedy and had 2. Volty , my favourite ride was from Ongarue to Mangapehi, the road Wickle and I went on just after we farwelled you. We probably should do this again!! It beats the shit out of cyber riding.
Some numbers... 600 trouble freeish miles on the Norton ( about 1000 kms in that new metric stuff) 68 MPG.....think around 26 kms per litre. 2 fouled NGK plugs 1 fallie outtie IKON shock mount 1 droppies offie tent and self inflating mat. 4 very happy bikers.
Volty, I think you just set yourself up with those figures. If I hadn't been there, I'd be asking how does one get 68 mpg out of 750cc of mean Norton and still manage to foul spark plugs?
And I learnt all about kill switches that turn off in the night. The battery is not flat .... just turn off tthe kill switch!!
BFTP 'hard core" prepare to hit the gravel. More posing for photos..... One of the local lads has a nice tidy Laverda " gonna need lots of Autosol after this..." HH on his new beemer. Us Jaffas are not used to seeing food running around.....or such a long way to fill up?
What great economy Volty. You must have been displaying middle aged restraint. Diesel, I have a mate who always takes that back road at Mangapehi-Ongarue when he does Ak-Wn, raves about it as a not to be missed road for motorcycling, obviously he's right!
No one made an offer on the Laverda?
What great economy Volty. You must have been displaying middle aged restraint. The Americans say you can get over 70mpg at a steady 60mph and thats US Gallons. It may have been a sports bike in its day but the brakes are appalling and I have not looked at the front end...probably full of splooge....
Diesel, I have a mate who always takes that back road at Mangapehi-Ongarue when he does Ak-Wn, raves about it as a not to be missed road for motorcycling, obviously he's right! Diggers, your mates right, she's a good route.........................we would have missed it, had we not decided to "Take the long way home"
Awesome guys, looks like fun weekend. Surprised you did'nt all stay at the friendly Taumarunui camp - especially after last time - they were so accommodating lol
