After the great weekend at Kawhia it set my mind running to where next and the idea of a run to the Ohura Prison B&B in the middle of the North Island came up. Being centrally situated we could hope for riders from the Hawkes Bay and Southern areas plus those coming down from Auckland. The good weather will end, and winter is not so far off ... Is May too late in the year for a 3 day weekend or is it better to wait until the spring .... October /November. The Whangamomona weekend was in early December last year and the weather was good but of course bad weather can happen at any time. A 3 day weekend does give the chance to arrive Friday,do the loop on the Saturday and head for home on Sunday. Any constructive thoughts? Rhys Check out this link: http://www.ohurastateprison.co.nz/
looks a handy spot, id never even heard of ohura lol
I'd be keen if it doesn't clash with my Skinny Riders Farmers Drought Austin Allegro Francis Barnett Disco 'n' Punk Charity Ride later in the year, so you can definately count me in until closer to the event when I become a maybe then a probably not but have a great weekend and maybe next time.....
Too early for me to commit. A thought, given that at that stage weather is pretty variable are you better to make it just an over nighter, if it pisses with rain you either sit in Ohura for the day or splash around in the rain. Either way , I'm easy.
I will stay the night this time

Voltaire - you can definately count me in until closer to the event when I become a maybe then a probably not but have a great weekend and maybe next time..... my thoughts exactly... that's why i said nothing
Well that was a bit of a lead balloon. Maybe we should look at things again later in the year. I have to take a month off and head away in my motorhome in April .... life can be tough for us oldies. If a decent weekend comes up in May I will head to Ohura on the bike to check out the accommodation etc there, and I will post on the forum before I go for anyone else wants to tag along. Rhys
Cat Herding can be challenging...... but I'll keep May in mind.....could be an RT ride... have a good month off...grrrr
are you going on another SKI holiday as my parents call them Spending Kids Inheritance
Rhys. Hang in there. You can bait the line but all that means is you have made the effort. I did the same with Kawhia and caught a few but not the numbers I had hoped. Maybe all you part time watchers can express what it is you want so we can tailor rides to suit. Do you want a "club" of like minded friends or what? Your call. Some of us are making the effort for you. ( apologies to those in distant parts of NZ who can't come. Keep posting!).
Yep!!!!!!!!!
Rhys, sorry I cant join you in May. Will be ruffing it in Samoa. If you don't get the numbers, I can do the ride later in the year.
Ian, the end of November or early December is probably a better time to aim at from a weather perspective and I think we should look at it again in October. Look forward to catching up with you, and Wickle next month. Cheers, Rhys
November would probably suit me better too. TBH, I've got too much happening at the moment to even think about another weekend away any time soon. Ohura sounds like a great venue though.
