You tractor heads have a way better calibre of ' Bitch Slap ' http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=750261 Go Max .
Seeing as I'm into a trans rebuild, I thought this thread was very timely. Looks like our Guru's are a bit short on knowledge.
I don't know how any one could ever have the temerity to contradict SS. Boejte is seriously clued up , Kevin Grant does not let any old numpty rebuild his Britten motor.
SS is probably a competent mechanic with lots of experience but he does not come across very well on the net, and likes to argue and cry your all ganging up on me. Amuses me that he has never uploaded a photo. Tempting at this point to bring up the end cover gasket? to Gasket or use sealent....then duck for cover. You Triumph guys have it easy with your rotary hoe two shaft gearboxes where's the Manfield pics?
I've been crossing paths and crossing swords with Billy (uber-schaft) for many years, both on ADV and previously on another BMW forum where he was asked to leave. I usually ignore him these days, and just watch his slow motion train wrecks from a safe distance. The thread you've linked to was a bit different, and I felt it justified a response. He insists on having the last word though, so I'd be surprised if there isn't some further comment from him. He has at times fuelled some interesting and thought-provoking discussions, but he can also be incredibly mule-headed. He's a complex chap . . . . .
It doesn't pay to enter any discussion with SS, even if you agree with him, he manages to turn that around to you being wrong. I think his exclusive BMW experience (I worked in Daddy's BMW dealership) limits his understanding of just basic engineering. I've worked with dealership mechanics who haven't got a clue when confronted with another make. It was funny in my Trade Cert practical exam to see a GM mechanic be given a VW engine to work on, or a Ford guy a BMC...you could see the panic in their faces. Of course the tutors made sure they didn't get anything familiar. They would've been digging deep to find something I hadn't come across.
