Yep, MNZ has granted a permit. They must be putting bubble wrap on the concrete.
An ex racer mate is very happy , he hates going to HD as a spectator as do many of the old farts at the vintage car club. It's a non points meeting , makes me wonder if they are taking the emphasis away from competitive racing. Not much in the way of detail yet.
Why would they make it a non points event? Is it going to be more or a celebration of classic racing rather than racing? I gotta say HD is pretty poor for spectating as you can really only view at T3/4, the start finish line and the haripin.
The grandstand opposite the pits at H/D gives a great view of the track.
he hates going to HD as a spectator It's a far better track for spectators than that shithole Puke will ever be
I'm shocked CMCRR is on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Z...26531914043889 See the video of the track as it is now.
At Puke the spectating wasn't on the track, but the pits and bike park. Sorry if you think I'm cheering you on, but I'm not interested in the racing.
Prior to racing at Puke in 2012 I was the same, now I don't have time to wander around the pits and bikes. I'm going to see if I can score ( borrow) an old ride for the festival ...any old race bikes out there collecting dust?
Oh good. I preferred Puke. HD is OK, but there seemed more buzz around the pits and park at Puke. And the trees were nice. Nowhere at HD top get out of the sun. Like Mr Motu, I go to see the bikes in the bike park and the pits- most of the time the actual racing is a bit of a side thing.
I heard that parts of the track are going to be yellow flag/no racing/no passing areas ! Not really racing if the whole meeting is under yellow flag conditions, Will be a cool program for it, can have the competetors and the results printed before the meeting No mention if those new fangled "Rice burners" can enter Will pass on going to this parade meeting
Nortons win most of the races at the meet.
Update off the NZCMRR Facebook Site. 30th, 31st January & 1st February 2015 Important Note This is a “One-Off” event to trial the re-introduction of motorcycle events back to the Pukekohe Raceway Rider discretion and restraint will be required to ensure riders safety at this event especially over the RH corner leading on to the front straight. If you are of the “Go Hard or Go Home” school of riding then this event is not for you. Any rider judged to be over-aggressive and not within the spirit of this event will be Black-Flagged and may be excluded from the meeting. If at any stage during the running of the event there is a concern for the safety of the riders the competition side of the meeting may be shut down and it would then become a parade event only. There are no Championship Points for this event for the NZCMRR or indeed for any other club.
They should run it at Taupo, much better viewing and pits, loos, showers, taupo 5 minutes away. Hampton Downs is a mongrel place and Puke will never be safe
The classic festival is the main revenue earner. Taupo loses money every time . The last 2 years the club has operated in the red, mainly due to falling revenues & rising costs. They see a need to refresh the Festival, don't know if this will work, but it may flush out a few more bike & a few more punters. We shall see.
I can see the logic at running a 'Festival' type weekend at Puke to bring in some revenue for the rest of the year. If its not going to be " go hard of go home" maybe they should encourage getting race bikes that no longer appear to come along and riders who never get to ride old bikes get to have a go round the track at less than race speed. Would be a win win really, however they are not communicating very well as the only news is on Facebook and lets be honest, most of the members want a letter in the post. More punters probably means getting more modern classics out racing, but I don't think with the current Auckland Motorcycle Club not using Puke since the up/downgrade that will happen. The BMW will need some work to get it up to parade speed
