im interested in the whole vinduro thing, probably more than say..vmx as im a bit of a trailrider at heart and like a long day riding a variety of terrain. theres been a vinduro class at virgin swamps and dead toad etc and one coming up at kinleith on 29th march..im in! ill ride '79 xr250z which fits into the 'evo 2' class , i dont really wanna damage
the low mileage bike but opportunity knocks so ive gotta ride what ive got, its either that or i drag out an xl185 from the garage and whip it into submission!
RDJase you could fettle one of your dt175'sfor the same class as me...

The DT175 just needs tyres, they are that hard and perished in the sidewalls they don't even look flat with no air.

and fork seals. will drag it out in the next few days, was riding it a few months ago.

The Gasgas is getting surgery at the mo, fork seals and steering head bearings. Duke apart too, the broken head studs are being a arse

I'm looking at VinDuro as well, lots of fun on bikes from my teenage years, if anyone's got something old and wants to sell, 2 stroke preferably, let me know. I'm going to miss the Kinleith event as Tussock Buster is on at the same time but there is lots of easy VMX events that a vaguely competent rider came do as well, be good to ride something without being passed by all the 12 year olds on little wheel 85s!

EVO 1 class the DT175 fits into, drums, and non linkage monoshock, might just di the VINTRAIL class, havnt riden off road for ages.

XR250 for you Ed? Will be EVO1 as well?

    Edit, Pro Link has linkages, EVO2 , DT is cantilever EVO1, them XR's have all the flash stuff (-;

I could put road gearing on the TLR200 and use that. But looking at the video it looks a bit easy for an old trials bike - those fast guys will be running me off the road. A bit more knarly and the trials bike could come into it's own.

Wouldn't worry about the competition Motu, it's points based with handicaps to older, less capable bikes. The overall winner of the Riverhead event was on a TS250 and the rider wasn't exactly young!

RDjase: if you decide you want to sell send me a PM, lightweight 2 stroke has always been a favourite of mine (says he, riding a fat 450 EXC at present).

hey man, yep i think im evo1 (twin shocks layed forward) plus drum brakes/aircooled ...my kinda bike! incidently, i took it (xr250z) up to rangitaiki for a day a month or so ago
and on the gearing thatll see it just touch on 130kph (indicated) on the road it also pulled well up rutty, branch infested climbs and made short work of the harder enduro type trails on the west end of the hill, talk about flexable eh! and the low seat helps too...altho having your knees up around your ears in the deepest of ruts causes cramps
im not sure what class ill sign on for yet but will try and be as competitive as my lazy carcass will allow, ill do a full day riding at rangitaiki the week before as a bit of a warm up if you wanna come along and give the dt a shakedown run?

crisis management, what kinda two stoker would you consider? an it175 or 200 would be right up my alley, or an aircooled kdx200

motu, i just watched that video, your right too easy for a trials bike..youd get bored and sore lol i hope it gets harder than that, at least some tough sections
    ...shit that IT200 sounded good!

I better get some off road riding gear, my old 80s FFM helmet with no visor and sunnys, plus my old army boots probably wont be up to it anymore

Friday flash: It depends how seriously you want to take the events, the appeal to me is the grubbing around in the mud and having fun rather than trying to win, knowing some of the guys from up this way that participate I know when I'm out classed! IT, PE or early KDX would be great tools, I like the twin shock bikes simply because that was the early part of my bike riding career but am also tempted by the likes of the XL250s as a fun bike to bounce around on. At this stage i would like something that goes and doesn't cost too much just so I can participate, if I get all serious about it there will always be a better bike for sale somewhere, I'm treating this like Buckets on dirt!
