was an SL 125 that did not go for $300 in 1983, looked a bit like this one. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-886657606.htm I spent a lot of my apprentice money here.... which is now a café... must be where the café racer thing came from
I had a '71 Suzuki T350. I spent my money at Wellington Motorcycles and a lot of time at Lower Hutt Hospital (With the occasional side trip to Wellington Hospital) After 6 months, I managed - usually - to only spend money.
Luxury http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi..._left_side.jpg That were when Lloyd had gone up market, used to be a couple of hundred yards [ remember them ] up the road ont tother side. He were a good bugger
How come so many people started on a SL125? I don't remember seeing many around back in the day.
Mine was a 1942 Army Indian .... a brute of a bike!!
Mine was a plunger framed 250 Jawa. Ring, ding, ding ding. I learned to ride on gravel roads. Apart from a TY, I have avoided 2 smokes ever since.
I had a BSA Bantam Major - the bigbore 150cc. Mine was blue, and might have had the bigger rounder tank, but they don't look familiar so I'll go with the small tank. My Mum said ''You need to get to work and night school, so I bought your cousins Bantam for $60, you can pay me back at $5 a week, on top of your $10 board....I was earning $18, so $3 a week for fuel and burgers. I spent my money at Weston Webb in Otahuhu, where the standard outfit of customers was a cutoff DJ over a leather jacket, two pairs of jeans and work boots. Over the years got well known enough to just walk out the back to the workshop.
Yamaha XT 250, had a horrible habit of stalling at the traffic lights and then being hard to start. Prepared me for the Nortons which later came along.
Honda XL200... heaps of fun and memories from that.
1969 650 BSA Lighting. oh how I wish I still had it!
My goodness. Some of you had real dungheaps indeed. My T350 was 18 months old and like new when I got it. It seemed to age rapidly after then though. Probably due to doing things like taking the pipes off and riding through Wellington CBD on Friday night. Much noise and flames indeed. I bet the shoppers were impressed.
Honda C200, 90cc pushrod engine, lent it to mate, he run out of gas and someone pinched it. never seen another one
hmmm that looks familiar.....
