Merry Christmas to all - assuming there is anyone left in the BFTP world that is.
And to you too Dadpole! I'm still here.
Yeah. Still around. Having to get a rotator cuff op soon, so no riding for 6 months. Will have to loan the bikes out and get on with the Daimler resto. Have a Happy Christmas, ride safely and avoid the revenue collectors.
Daimler resto? What flavour? I am rather fond of the old Daimlers. When I lived in Oz, I spent over a year pestering an idiot to let me buy a Dart he had sitting under a tree. Probably just a trace of rust in the dirt now. Bugger about the rotator cuff. No riding for me... No bike anymore. Fingers crossed that in 6 months I will have some piggy bank internals. I still fancy an airhead but they will probably be priced in classic Ferrari territory by then.
My Daimler is a 1938 Mulliner bodied 4 seat drophead. It is in new condition which is a total mystery. The brakes are so new the linings still have the stencil writing and the drums don't have a scratch. However it needs a full resto although everything is there. If you email me I'll keep you up with progress. I won't be able to ride my airhead for 6 months so maybe Rhys will take it for rides.
Sounds like quite a project. Someone needs to bring the old beasts back from oblivion, so all the best with it. I expect the parts situation is easy - make it yourself...
Pretty much everything is there. Plus a whole heap of new and used spares. If you google Winston Churchills Daimler you will see the model. Only mine has wire wheels ( in perfect condition) and running boards. Plus mine is a full 4 seater so slightly longer wheel base. The panel beater next door is at a loose end so is almost full time on it fixing odds and ends from decades of storage. Art Deco here we come. Look at Daimler Convertibles for images. Mine is an E20 which is almost identical to a DB18. Same engine & chassis but Mulliner rather than Barker body.
Merry Christmas from the Headrooms. We're in Wanganui, planning to go for a pootle tomorrow on our tricycle.
Doing close proximity road surface inspections at the same time? You be careful out there.
I had a look at some images online. They certainly are an impressive car. Much known history with it?
No provenance at all. The speedo says 5000 miles but everything we pull apart is new. The brakes are new and every fastener is unblemished. No rounded or butchered bolts and all the screw slots are virginal. Never had a spanner on it from new. No evidence anywhere of an accident. The leather upholstery ( buggered now) is still stuffed with horse hair. Real mystery car that has had all of us scratching our heads. Fascinating project. Maybe I'll be the first to use it since 1938? If you google Daimler DB18 Drophead images look for the royal blue and cream car. That's the look I want. It now has the body off, but everything just needs a clean and paint rather than a full-on resto job. If you are looking for a bike, I might part with my MZ. 660 single OHC engine ( Yamaha Warrior) and the best Italian cycle parts. Brilliant bike but no time to ride it.
Well, the close proximity road surface inspection went reasonably well. Well, apart from losing the ballast a few hundred metres from the finish and discovering that detail while negotiating the last lefthander. . . . (Mrs Headroom is ok by the way!)
Ballast???? I suspect you will pay for that. The MZ? I have decided if an airhead (Or K75) is not in my future then I will be heading down the ADV bike road (DR ect, not a GS monster)
Talk to Rhys. He might satisfy both needs.
