yes I do...I failed to attend the last BFTP ride due to the bike not starting on the mornming of the ride.....and I have finally found out what the problem was....and being a former sparky..and having rewired the bike with a new harness....this is very hard to admit......but the problem was.....wait for it..........the heat resistant fibre sleeves over the contact point cables....had nicks in them....so...the wires were shorting to the frame....causing there to be no spark..or there to be an intermittant spark.....so there you have it...firing early on the right still (another problem!)..but firing on both cylinders all the same....
lol, cmoore, i recon this is one of those situations where you deserve a complimentary bftp sticket! btw, do you know where to get heat resistant fibre sleeves you mention? i asked a couple of automotive sparkies but they looked at me like this
firing early on the right still (another problem!).. checked the points gap?
yeah electrical wholesaler like ideal or russells will have it....not used as much as it used to be due to heat resistant cables being a lot beter...and yeah i will check the points gap, essentially i have a worn cam chain, this has thrown the timing out slightly i have been "fixing" it by cutting more of the points backing plate away and therefor sliding the points around further...!!...cheap n nasty or what!!
Yup ! cheap an Nasty, but hey if it works, run with it.LOL sorry Mate shoudn;t laugh, was coming home from last Thursday nights South Ak Ride and felt something hit my boot, r/h side, on the inside.Thought OK exhaust pipe? Na!.Not hot enough. Thought, no extra noise? carry on. Got home, got off, vibration had shaken loose the bottom right hand clip on the side cover and she'd popped off against my boot. Still there, hate to think what one of those would have cost. Narms an legs I think.
Caseye, yeah mine had a stripped thread on one bolt and the other kept loosening...so i re threaded them both yesterday...so hopefully won't lose that cover!!......up date on the bike.....my right leg/knee hurts like hell this morning....no...not from the constant kick starting.....once i found my little problem, i cleaned the plugs...and...went to kick it...expecting the usual resistance......it started before it got 1/4 turn...and my leg was pushing hard out....just about crippled me!!....gotta love these old bikes!!
LOL Oh so sorry cmoore, but that really made my day. Nice one mate, good to see we can all tell one agin ourselves on occassion. Hope that Yammy is going great guns now.
i recon kick starters are super cool, but only on other people's bikes
at least your problem was a real one, my battery on my gpx is dying so i have had to roll start it in the morning to go to work, so the other morning i got half way down my road and the bloody thing wouldnt start so i pushed it up the road up my driveway into my garage and ended up taking my cruiser to work instead. anyway halfway through the day i was sitting there thinking about it and realised (with a loud FCUK) scaring the work mates half to death the dam kill switch was on. still need to get a new battery though
lol, this is becoming a thread about complimentary bftp stickets! hope you guys are not making these things up just to be nominated for the annual award??? cos you know, if you are, the ol' mate dodgyiti will get ya! eh, dogyiti?
Always interested in other's trials and tribulations psy. It can all add up. Thank goodness I am not eligable as my Mk1 has a leaking base gasket and have had to strip both barrels off and at the moment it is a bare block with rods and pistons hanging out I did do a compression test before that and got 185psi per pot which is awesome considering it is not even bedded in yet. It had 92/115 respectively when I pulled it down. Now I will have to use metal reinforced base gaskets instead of plain ones as the beast is pretty hairy. That reminds me, Voltaire was doing some work on his Duck. We have not heard much about that lately.... Perhaps a damn moped fell out of the rafters and trapped him underneath, should we send out a St Bernard with a barrel full of red wine around it's neck?
hey rockbuddy!!..hah!...don't you hate it when that happens...i was working late one nite and when i left i found an engineer sitting in his car...i asked him what he was doing..he said he was waiting for the AA..i asked why...he said....he had locked his keys in the boot...i reached in and pulled the boot release lever....he went bright pink....of course...i never told anyone he had waiting 45m for the AA....HAH!!
Feel the need to confess anything else cmoore? Points plate 180 degrees out? XS now a runner? Come on... what was the problem, you can tell us...
nasty.......
Nasty? Eh? I'm just curious to know if you got it sorted...
