You guys see this!!!!! Gasp $750.00 for a 600 plus cc bike. 40 year old bikes are looking attractive at $ 136.00... So are BFTP going to block the Harbour Bridge during rush hour and/or ride on down to the Beehive as suggested in the main forum. Me I'm thinking of going to the BRONZ meeting to see what Katman looks like.
one word ..... bastards
When they mentioned in the last few days that there would be an increase, I thought that another hundy would be huge, but I'd just have to suck up and get on with it. But $500! It actually is unbelievable.
It's not a done deal yet, you can send in submissions, write to your MP, go on protest rides, have T shirts printed, and go to Bikers Rights meetings....then they drop it back to $ 650.00 and everybody thinks ....great we beat them.
Total cost for 601cc + will be just under $900 a year per bike if this goes through. I will ride through Auckland on the Guzzi in protest. The resulting oil slick should bring traffic into a sliding gridlock pile up. Italian Motorcycles- Working for you better than your MP
QUOTE - I will ride through Auckland on the Guzzi in protest. The resulting oil slick should bring traffic into a sliding gridlock pile up. UNQUOTE Just warn us cause we wont be able to stop
The ignorance of the New Zealand Media: quote: "Motorcyclists are going to be hit hardest because they are more likely to crash" unquote. Not happy. I'm picking there's not many politicians who ride. And the CEO of ACC still gets a payrise, 530k a year.... something stinks here.....
My mate John Banks rides. He has 3 bikes over 1000cc. Guess he can afford it though
Voltaire Me I'm thinking of going to the BRONZ meeting to see what Katman looks like. Dodgy... help a fella out would ya
Sorry mate:
Whoops, I thought you said Scatman. No one knows what lies under Katman's mask. Some say it is like in Mad Max 3 "Beyond the Thunderdome". Where Mel Gibson fights the giant in the Thunderdome and Blaster's helmet comes off. Or so legend has it. If you blow a high pitched whistle in the carpark you might seek him out.
I reckon he looks like John Banks. I'm not going anywhere on a bike - 40 years on a bike and no ACC claim.I reckon I get on the bike, that stupid BMW sidestand flicks up and I fall off and break a leg without moving a wheel.I should never have sold Mum's mobility scooter to buy another bike,I knew it would come in handy.
I can't say I'm surprised that the ACC levies are going up on motorcycles, but doing it based on engine size.... ACC is probably partly to blame for NZ being the Adventure Capital of the world. When I lived in Ireland the kids had to get one off insurance to go on field trips, the skating rink closed as it could not get insurance, and it cost me 1000 Euros to insure my Kombi for 1 year, no insurance means no rego. There were no modified cars, young people drove 1400 cc cars and rego was based on engine size. The only V8's I saw were at car shows. Large bikes were few and far between. Registered vehicles are an easy way to collect cash as the systems are already in place...what about boaties, skiiers, dirt bikers, bike/car racers...and so on...I'm not against user pays but it has to be fair. I honestly can't see a load of motorcycles protesting will make one bit of difference. I'm sure your average motorist thinks it probably their own fault.
Well I thought about it... it took a while but I decided I ain't happy and yes, if some of you guys are going to the BRONZ meeting or protests I'll join you.
I will be going to the BRONZ meeting. Have made my submission. I used someone else's one and changed a few things because it was better than I could do.
