It's a coating, 720 degree super hard. They cant do mags but most everything else is ok.
It does not matter about the alloy quality in this process. They soak out all the impurities then media blast to get an etch on the surface but you must get it smooth first, the smoother the surface, the more shine.
Web search ProCoat for a bunch of pics, or check my pimped out rides
It is ment for headers etc, but I like the look so much they did engine covers and s/arm etc for me.
My mate had his headers done on a very grumpy SB Chev, he drag raced it setting naturally aspirated NZ records in the process, did burnout comps, it caught fire and 8 years down the track the headers still look mint.
I give my stamp of Bling to this process and it is 2/3rds the cost of HPC, he used to run HPC but went out on his own using the same process and raw materials but without the mother company taking markups off his margins, hence the better value to us.
When I pimp out my Mk2, I am getting the whole frame, s/arm, engine covers, foot peg hangers and every metal bracket done in this coating. It is going to be Pimptastic!!!!

Nicks and small scratches can be polished out to some degree, do that first.
Yeah- don't clear coat anything, I followed psy's lead and used POR-15 Glisten 2-pot clear on my engine, whaddamistaketamake!

Glad you posted that Mr Moore, so psy can see the result of not using a quality 2-pot clear, which is what we were discussing on Sunday. It can only end in tears. Maybe you both can get together and go halvesies in a 1 liter as it will do 2 bikes worth and bring it over to Dodgy's House of Pimp to give it a squirt...

hey cmoore maybe you want to lend your tank so i can practice on it

if it ends up good you can keep it, if it ends badly, oh well, it's not that flash now either, i understand

seriously though, i'd be happy for us to paint at the same time.

i'm currently looking into the graphics so don't know when exactly i might be ready to go.

dodgyiti, what was that place for graphics again please? the one in henderson.

    Brave design psy.
Or if your handy with tech drawing you can map out the transfers onto coloured vinyl sheet and cut them out and apply?
Ha! that will give you something to chew on...

nice ...i know my tank looks shit...but since i am going to paint the XJ550 when i get around to the frame and tank etc i was waiting to get it all done at the same time....i have a spray gun but have never had much success with it...and when i get frustrated i throw things...and my probation officer tells me that is bad....so i don't use the spray gun anymore...

I have a Devillbis gravity feed, if I set it up (thin the paint right and set the fan and pressure) any one can use it and do a reasonable job. It's 80% in thinning the paint correctly, something you never get to screw up using rattle cans. See what your missing out on.
