Still taking my Lemon touring, just looking out for a daily runner that can do 2-up and open road because my SRX is only good around town.

dodgy, with bmws i think you'd be paying a little extra just for the rarity factor and a brand name therefore maybe worth it if you were buying it for a resto or as a keeper but not worth it for a daily rider, me thinks

But psy, the Strudle Mafia is closing in... I don't know how long I can hold out

In defence of the marque, they do big kms, you can get bits easily and I know how they tick (it's the bloody tappets again) .
After test piloting a semi modern 4cyl 1000 I think that is waaay too much power than I will ever need. Becaues I am of the nature to use it. Better not to have it. Know thyself and ye shall keepth the Licence

My G/F thinks that with a flat cap I would look like Bon Scott, so there!

I've had only two experiences with leadwings, both early K0/K1 1000cc models. A mate of mine in Wellington 30 years ago put a rod through the case on his (he was a loose unit!) so he bought an engine out of a stolen/recovered bike which had been stored for about four years. I stripped it down & gave it a freshen-up while I was doing an apprenticeship block course at Petone Tech, & he fitted it into his bike. I heard it run, but wasn't much into bikes back then and never even went for a ride on it. He donated the remains of the original "ventilated" engine to the motorcycle apprentice training workshops at Petone Tech.

The other experience was via my father-in-law, who bought one in Oz in the early '90s and brought it back to NZ for a few years. I went for a ride on it one afternoon, and was struck by how top-heavy it felt. The steering felt very vague too, and I couldn't wait to get off the thing. He could never get the carbs to work properly. He thankfully took his goldthing back to Oz & I don't know what happened to it after that.

i actually enjoyed riding it...it was a very stable machine.....i hit a shopping trolley ful on in the middle of st lukes rd..on a very wet night...and the bike din't even wobble...my left finger and toes did though...you will be aware that the cases split vertically on these bikes and the fun to be had hammering the last half of the cases together and not breaking the rings!!...i put it back together the first time to find i didn't have fourth...washer on wrong side of gear....out she came again....ah the memories...

I had a similar panic when my mate went for the first ride after the engine swap. He couldn't find 5th gear, & I panicked, thinking it meant a full stripdown to fix it. He discovered the next day that it was just the external linkage that I hadn't set up quite right. IIRC, he had to drop the front pipes or pull the front timing cover off to get access - my memory has faded somewhat with the exact nuts'n'bolts. Anyhooo, it was a simple fix and everything was OK . . . . phew!
