I have discovered an Italian company who makes copies of the original black chrome exhausts for all the Katana models (as well as most other bikes from that era). I'm planning on getting a pair of mufflers for the 550 and getting header pipes made up and then black chromed by Rigg Electroplating in Auckland.

I was taking a break from riding as well for around 12 years (kids...house... etc) and was lucky enuf to come across an absolutely mint 86 pop up on trademe, even with the original exhaust in good nick. She's done 36k and a great bike. I've put the rego on hold and decided not to ride it much to preserve it as much as possible.

Love the look and riding position. One I ride with has a 750 and I know its really weird but I love flicking the footpegs in and out. On my bike its so clunky and on the Kat its just a light click it feels almost electronic. Everything just seems so well made and smooth. And a fuel gauge and clock that rocks. I am taking a 600 for a ride next week, hope I will still love it then.

Hi, I am currently restoring a 1981 Katana 1100SZ and would like to seek some advice from anyone with experiance fitting engine's.

At present the frame is bear which gives me the opportunity to lay the completed engine on its side and fit the newly painted frame around the engine then stand the whole thing up and start fitting folks, wheels etc. Or...do I get the frame rolling and place the completed engine into the frame the normal way? Which way is best if you don't want to risk damaging the paint work?

    Cheers, Seedy
