Croc, if you want to hear some great surround, buy a copy of "Dark side of the moon" on SACD (super audio CD). You can play it in 5.1 surround or stereo. IMO, one of the best quality Cd's around. Released by Capitol CDP 7243 5 82136 21, in 2003. Crank the volume up and enjoy - MONEY.
I like floyd and have most of Dark side of the moon (though not on CD)
I have a mint Vinyl copy and the SACD. IMO, the remixed SACD is slightly better sound quality than the vinyl. But this is the only occasion that I have found the CD sound to be superior to the vinyl. It's a pity that vinyl wears out and is so prone to scratching. Also very difficult to play the tracks in random mode.
I have unplayed picture discs of Sgt Peppers and Abbey Road as well as Yellow Brick Road in yellow. Went of Aussie in 86 and was buying records there but by 87/88 had gone to CD's mainly thanks to a Kiwi bloke who worked at a CD warehouse.. Last record/first CD Midnight Oil Diesel and Dust, vid for beds are burning filmed at end of my street in Redfern....ah great days.....hard rock and Darmahs.
Jeez Volty, Redern? You were living in prime real estate then. I don't blame you for keeping those LP's, unplayed and highly collectible, so to speak. Having said that, someone will play them eventually, so why not enjoy them yourself? I have a very collectible near mint early stereo LP (1958) that I have only played twice, but have found a gold CD version which I play quite regularly. A lot of my valued vinyl has been duplicated in CD version. I try and seek out hybrid SACD copies when they become available. I spent some time in Sydney too during the early 80's. There was a record seller called "Redeye Records" not far from the Cross, who specialised in finding difficult to obtain rarities on Audiophile Vinyl.
