Busy day today: Went to exhaust shop to get bits for Subaru exhaust to save the $600 Pit feckin' stop wanted... Took van in for new tyres and wheel alignment, cycled home, Rode over Shore to get new Michelins for Duke ( as reccommended by Tony ( dooley) ....went up to Triumph shop for look....had another look at Thruxton ..... Want to take a Bonnie for a ride....ok...... so here I am on this new Bonnie riding up back road of Albany.... Smooth and quiet....two thing I don't like in motorcycles. loudest thing was the gearbox. Went ok but seemed undergeared and buzzy.( was described later to me as a " round town chicks bike') Can't say it did much for me after the thundering Darmah. Then met up with a asbestos ceiling remover at my Mums old place, Dropped Ducati home, cycled down to get van, got its WOF, Picked up Subaru muffler, welded it up and fitted it, Got its wof, had a beer and then discovered after 6 weeks the internet is back on... Rock on Slingshot you useless F#$%^s.
didnt know you had "Bonnie". heck i dont even know what it is?? but definitely a busy day!
Awesome day, I'd say. Well done Voltaire Psy! he said he took one for a road test from Holeshot (not that he said which shop)
yes i should read with more attention, lol parallel twins are cool
Hey Voltaire! New tyres need a decent ride to scrub in. How about slipping away and have a BFTP character development day down at Paeroa on Sunday eh! http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/ca...=2010-2-21&c=0
I like the bonnie USA
I'm work'n on a pass out for sunday, washed the Darmah and .......kicked it over....started first time The new retro Triumphs don't really do it for me....bit like a new VW Beetle.... I do however like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=271364069 However too busy moving/renting/working/ to even concider anything.
Man! it does look new........ A brand new 72 He'll get his $12 K for sure
the specs on the bonne are a bit underwhelming, 67hp out of 865cc, although i reckon there is room for easy improvement, and they do look and sound pretty dam cool
I took one for a test ride from Anza. I thought it was a wee bit 'girly'. It handled well, qiuet as hell, not a lot of go, and for me, more a round town bike.
I love the Thruxton, with aftermarket pipes. They are all undergeared, my Thruxton topped out at around 160 but got there quickly. Better to be under geared than licenceless
67hp out of 865cc, The Darmah apparently only has about 60HP and 860cc but it feels way more 'grunty'. On my 1100km BFTP trip last weekend I never once though the Duke lacked power, It give the sensation of speed without the licence loosing bit......" Gee officer its older than you...." The Triumph was more like a Japper twin from the 80's, smooth, slick but with no feel. I don't like too much undergearing, makes the motor sound to busy. Darmah does about 3600 rpm at 100/ the ss does about 4000. Conclusion: I'd rather have a restored Commando/ Bonnie than a HInkley clone.
Good as a turn key bike though, I used mine for commuting where it was ideal because of the under gearing, quick off the mark and able to trickle along at walking pace with the clutch out in 1st. Plus with the clip ons it was very narrow for splitting up the middle. They are choked up with euro 3 to begin with. Once you free up the sxhaust and filtration- and remove the oil waste recirculating stuff off the heads they are much better. All new bikes sound like pussers and are choked up, victims of the times.
