Good plan ;-) and bikes are much happier in pairs, or 3's or 4's aye
cmoorepower Blueprinting and valve pocket re-shaping jobs should also help you gain more performance.....aye???? Blueprinting helps longevity too. Freeing up the exhaust is a good start as well. You be careful getting another motor..SWMBO alert
thanks dodgy....blueprinting??.....my plan is....get this motor running...new bearings and rings.....if i can do anything else to increase power i will.....but then i will be looking for anothe xj550 to rebore to 600 or another 600 head to fit.....more power better to hide my weight and bad riding................as for SWMBO......small bills in spread out.....thats the plan........
Check out the 650 heads. They may have bigger valves and ports than the 550 ones? If so, that would be the way to go. You should be able to bore out a 550 to 600 without getting too thin on the sleeves. If not, sleeving a 650 back to 600 is an option too, but would be more expensive to do. Lower CR motors will never out perform higher ones, unless you use forced induction, which your class doesn't allow.
Good thinking Diesel ! An interweb spec search should tell you that cmoore. Well worth the time if only to know, and if things are the same it widens yuor net of potential parts donor engines
