Rumours over the last week or so abound about the the sale of Piaggio and the possible merger between the two Italian Motorcycle manufacturers.
From what I can tell the rumours started when an Italian Business Analyst recognised the signs in a possible merger between Piaggio and Ducati. Ducati has recently returned to Italian ownership after a brief 12 or so years (and a very succesful stint) in American hands. Interesting prospect here, this will bring about a serious challenge to Japanese marks and could we see an improvement in the Guzzi service delivery piggy backed onto an already succesful Ducati dealership network?
Piaggio have apparently declined to confirm or deny any merger plans and are keeping mum on the whole thing which just adds fuel to the rumour.
This is pure speculation at this point and we will be watching that space with much interest.
Maybe Pierre Terblanche will returning to Ducati, albeit in an unusual way."
