    Currently building a Suzi TS250 vintage mx'er. Have had a Kwak KE175 with race spec RD350 motor in that was a track bike back in England. It was a blast beach racing it as well.

    I don't quite understand why, but boxer BMW's are great on gravel.
    Farmer Peter is another airhead fangin' on the dust with an R65- just got his new intermediate tyres and out there doing it.

    Is that a 65 in the pic Dodgy?

    Is it just the low centre of gravity and width? I'm sure Motu has the answers.

    Low centre of gravity,but it's also more forward than a dirt bike,you don't have to climb up onto the tank like you do on a dirtbike....although with my seat I can move around more than on the stock seat.The extra trail helps stability too,especially in the thick stuff.The R65 is an advantage in loose metal I feel with it's light flywheel and short stroke - it hooks up better than anything else I've ridden,and the extra revs lets me keep it spinning...power from 3,500 to 7250 is a lot more than the R80.

    My last couple of dirt bikes,the XT600 and DT230 never hooked up,they just kept spinning if the throttle was open,I have to make the R65 wheelspin,and it has more power and weight than the XT621 had.Not to mention better tyres,but the K70's are my secret....street tyres can't possibly be better than dirt tyres in gravel eh?

    Apparently not . . . the R90S in the pic is an earlier effort by Dodgy to wind up BMW owners everywhere

    It did wind them up alright. My first club ride with them and I got totally snobbed.. they made me go at the back with the nanas, then I went to a meeting trying to get a classic division within the club because it was full of 'fancy pants' beemers
    The only people at that meeting that would talk to me was Max and a dude with a beard and crazy eyes never renewed my membership...

    Is there a Nana pecking order in the BMW club.....based on original cost or most original or most comprehensive service history.... : lol;

    Nah they just wanted the riff raff at the back.
    Open road cruising speed 95km/h - I had to ask because I didn't have a speedo at the time, or indicators...but I am good with the hand signals, saved my best one for after the run

    The BMW club pecking order is probably similar for most "prestige" brands of any persuasion such as Ducati clubs, Ferrari clubs, Porsche clubs etc. The most expensive vehicles create the (often misleading) impression that the owners have a few clues, and are therefore courted and fawned over. These inbreeds often end up on committees and do immeasurable harm . . .

    Many of these clubs are little more than business networking groups these days, and operate in a similar manner to membership of a golf club, yacht club or similar. Best avoided . . . .

    Ever so slightly (apologies for thread hijack).
    On the subject of winding up owners clubs, my mate in England had a Vincent Black shadow with turbo AND nitro. VOC NOT best pleased. When he got blackballed he painted it canary yellow and used to turn up at the club runs and park up in the middle of them and then retire to a safe distance.
