I just push the button and mine starts. Perhaps you are riding the wrong brand. (what we need is a 'stirrer' smilie)
I noticed at the Classic Racing at Puke that the Beemer guys left the starter and battery in the bike....made life a lot easier...one had a very small starter motor. how about a large cable roller under the van wheel...
