I have a 4 year old HJC helmet and I want to get a new one. I also have tinitus, which gives me low level buzzing when its quiet. Probably due to years of motorcycle riding, loud concert venues and building sites. I have some plugs for lugs but at the end of a 300 km ride I still have that vague semi headache feeling. Unfaired bikes are better as you don't get the 'dirty air' Tried a whisper kit , its better but you still get the wind noise. Q: whats a quiet helmet? I like the look of Dodgys Coburg with its two visors.
get one a size too small...
Sometimes it's a combination of helmet and bike. Depending on what the front of the bike does to windflow, coupled with any given helmet's characteristics. I can't stand earplugs, but my Shoei Raid doesn't seem too bad. Tis quieter on the Gixxer with double-bubble compared to the CB750. But then I go slower on the CB, so it evens out.
Shuberth R1 Quietest helmet, they make the claim backed up with the data and no one else contests it. I had one up until the fateful coro loop run, best helmet I've ever had- light, very quiet, arodynamic and with the flip down sunvisor- you have to have a lid with that option no matter what, so usefull it should be mandatory for safety for all lids. The Shuberth can be had for 800 bucks on the web or 999 from an agent, Botany Honda are the Auckland dist for Shuberth. It should not matter now as you have the grade 4 moulded plugs as far as quietness. The Caberg (made in Italy and oil resistant)I have now is a good lid but the importer is a bit dippy to deal with (Westie) mine cost 330 and a spare visor $50, croc has ther Caberg flip face and swears by it, but he swears a lot anyway...
The best I have had so far was a BMW system 3 they were also made by Schuberth, what model HJC is it? My last two helmets were an HJC AC11 (lasted 2 weeks before a highside destroyed it) and a FG14 (lasted 5 years before Highside destroyed it) I used both on the road and didn't think they were to bad noise wise but I always wear earplugs
