Max- what about Mrs H's bike?
Frankly, never enough shed time, especially when I'm trying to develop the bike business. I've got 2 customer bikes on the go + my own GS + TS250 VMX 'er. BIG priority at the moment is getting the sidecar racer built and developed, THEN start building the bobber. All this stuff needs doing as it will all be publicity for the business, especially want to develop the frame building. The other problem apart from time is space. Currently running out of a 1 1/2 garage and I literally can't move in their so xmas job is to extend garage into the extra 1.2 metres I have up to next doors fence.
After a nice ride down the bus lanes on the Duke, and said to Declan " do you want to pull the VW motor out?" five minutes later we were into it, 30 minutes later the engine was out. Found the clutch arm all in bits..., first time I've ever seen that on a VW..... kwality shed time I say...then I made dinner...wifes out tonight....
Yeah, Mrs H's R75/5 Toaster has stalled for the same reason. I've got a lot of the bits in stock already, but there's still a bunch of things I still need to get from overseas. As well as the bits required, bodywork needs painting, wheels need re-spoking, seat needs attention, etc. One of the more elusive items I still needed was a rear cover for the gearbox, 'cos it's getting a 5-speed conversion and light clutch/flywheel similar to the R90S. I've tracked a few rear covers down and they arrived from Germany last week. They are slightly damaged, hence cheap. My tame engineer friend is repairing the damage to all three, which is an unexpected win - I figured we'd probably have to sacrifice one to repair the other two. One day . . .
When I had my own business the bikes were all in the workshop.I usually didn't do much to them during the day,but seeing as I had to stay an hour after knock off time waiting for customers to pick up their cars (and maybe pay for them if I was lucky),I used to do a lot of work then. You can do a lot more to your bike if it's in a real workshop, with all the tools and everything else you need....and the boss doesn't care....and you can buy what you like for the bike,so long as it comes from one of your suppliers.Even things like a spray can of paint, just get one off the shelf - now I have to buy stuff like that...and now I make sure every last drop is used. AAADD - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.Probably started running my workshop - doing 10 things at once,I was only able to stay focused on a single task for a maximum of 5 minutes before being interrupted or moving on to the next priority. Now it seems to be how I live in my spare time too.
My shed is full ! A Valiant 2 door and 5 bikes in a 6m x 4.5m shed. I work on the concrete pad out in front of it,(till it gets dark). The LC race bike is in my front sun room (being used as clothes line) The GSXR and 1 of the TZR's are outside. My wood (never had any wood in it) shed has 4 bikes in it, the lean to of it has 3ish?. Must do a stock take, I think there are more around the place somewere
went to F/Flash's and he used his skills to spray paint rear carrier that broke too much weight in it on mid winter ride to Lake. must remember next year to put brown lemade bottles in backup vechile
Heard a we knock on the front door. Was the neighbours kids wanting their bike tyres inflated. Opened the shed door then fired up the compressor. While it was coming up to pressure one of the kids counted the botormycles and come to the conclusion there was eight. took a few tries though. In various states of sevicability of course. Inflated the tyres, turned off the compressor and closed the shed door. The kids where happy and so was I.
