My wife alway goes there...Roger is a...." character".... Perfect day for a bike ride....but instead....got a trailer of compost and rotary hoed it it and got some plants in, collie, cabage, leeks, perpetual spinach. There is a problem in the way of the neighbours pets.....they have lots of rabbits....all in cages except 2...they are 'free range' We have taken pecautions in the way of a low screen but time wil tell.... One rabbit is called Domino and I have named the other Stew. We fenced the puppies of as they like to dig about.....sigh......
Train the puppies to eat the rabbits, one problem solved Bloody rabbits. I had to completely fence my garden when I lived rurally, friggen bunnies would have a field day otherwise. Now it is just slugs and snails that eat my food.
Your lucky, Im slowly tipping the scales in my favour in relation to catepilars, well I thought I had seems I am just moving them around my garden... I got rid of the problem in the bed that holds my silverbeet, lettuce, cauliflower and strawberries (time to add some chives to the mix to put the critters off I learned today ) however apon returning from the farm today and working oh so hard ( I love the ride to and from the farm on days like this ) and found the catepilars had moved to my celery and Basil. So thats it... time to bring out the big guns and mix up some garlic fire spray Why are such tiny little bugs so Darned determined to tick me off
Bloody Rabbit ate all my cabbages I planted last weekend.... Going to see the neighbours about their " free range' pests. Only been here ar month and already going to fall out with next store.... Traps are $112.00........ " no.....we haven't seen Domino anywhere...."
That must drive you nuts, do they not realise the work that goes into growing veges even more annoying if like myself you rely on your garden/farm to put food on the table! Hope it worls out for you!!! While Im here does anyone know how to view comments that go with negative posted reputation feedback? hope all are well!
You may need to highlight them. I find there are still some places on the forum where you cant read anything as in the set up the font colour is the same as the background colour in the green zone. Try that.
I found the reputatuion comments... go to settings and it pops up with positive and negative comments, thanks any way! hope all is well!!!
Bugs in the basil and celery??? imagine my surprise... I have been trying to figure out what has been destroying 2 of my 6 basil plants lately, daily inspections have turned up nothing and today I found 2 cacoons one on each plant (I dont know how I missed them growing up??) huge catepillars that I thought didnt like basil and celery (found one in celery plant the other day but had not eaten any celery. apparently they usualy eat "cabbage, cauliflower brocolli, sweedes and brussel sprouts") had set up nice little homes for themselves, needless to say they wont be getting out and flying away anytime soon . also I found one of my lettuces has produced two hearts go lettuce!
Wabbit stew is luffley....I do recomend you buy a cage. You would only need 10 wabbits to make a deal on it
Rogers is a great place to get variety at a good price. But remember he only takes cash.
hello all, quick note to introduce myself - been gardening for the last >45 years both as "backyard" and commercially. Currently have a couple of acres (although half is in native bush) and have been slowly extending the gardens. Do it slow enough and my wife won't notice lol.... Own my own business (which has nothing to do with horticulture or agriculture) so time can be a bit of a problem sometimes bu as they say it all makes life more interesting
hmmm just realised that saying I have been gardening for >45 years makes it sound like I a lot older than I am lol.... I started real young!!!
