Hey, the Jappas aren't perfect either.
hell..who said they were perfect???...but ...so does that mean they have character.......?

If having dodgy charging systems is character, then yes, GS's have it.

Actually, the endearing features of the GS 850 are their classic old school looks, and their arm chair like comfort, on long hauls............ Mine pisses all over the 1150 in the comfort stakes, and most other bikes I've ridden too.

Actually the one thing I've found they work best on was the old Iron Horse Masports - but hey,if you couldn't set one of those by ear you were a lost case.Half a turn up to rich, one full turn down to lean....half way was perfect, and the Colour tune said it was too,so it must be so.

I have one, but wasn't that impressed with the results I got when using it to confirm my ear/seat of pants tuning. I found that when the flame was blue ( the ideal colour), the engine wasn't as crisp off idle. I just re-tuned it by ear and rode it.

The colour guide may be slightly out when using non leaded fuels. My engine likes running on the lean side too!

I have a Henrob torch, and it has welded up cases etc at race meetings in the past. To be honest, while it works well, although not as easy as the demo guys make it look, I don't think it is better than the Mesco Aviator torch I have, which is a nice, light piece of kit. The Henrob is a bit heavy, and the cutting torch sucks IMO, I replaced it with a 40+ year old Meteor cutting torch which was much easier to use and did a better job.
The cost of AC/DC tig welders and plasma cutters these days, I would save up for one of them first. I hardly use the oxy set these days.
