Coming home tonight I crashed my bike at high speed. Friday night we have a few beers after work...more than a few maybe - a crate and a half. Coming home over the Tainui Bridge with a tail wind and mid range in 21th gear,I realised I was really moving and thought '' I can't focus at this speed,I'll crash if I hit something''. I went down on the corner into Harris St - no damage,I had to straighten my tail light, and there are few marks on my jacket. No damage to me. Careful out there guys - riding fast while intoxicated on wet footpaths can lead to thrills. Most important - no one saw me!
21 gears? footpath! pedal power
Don't Drink and Drive!!!
Mechanics and Friday beers... no good can come of that
I remember seeing an article in the paper many years ago reporting that a guy who had been drinking was on his way home on a bicycle, and had ridden through a stop sign without stopping. An on-duty cop saw it, pulled the guy over, breathalysed him, and booked him. Turned out the guy had already lost his license for drink-driving, and thought he was doing the right thing by riiding a bike. He had just appeared in court and lost his car license for several more months and hit with another fine. I remember thinking at the time that it sounded like a grudge between the guy and the cop.
In my yoof, I often used to drink a lot before riding on lighter and slower machines. I don't drink more than a handle these days before riding. I believe I need all the help I can get to keep my bikes upright these days!
I believe alcohol and speed were a factor. Even more so than on a low powered motorcycle,on a bicycle momentum is your friend...never lose it and take all the help you can get. So down hill with a strong tail wind I threw caution to the wind (or with it) I hooked my highest gear and took it to speeds I rarely see. In the dark I was riding beyond my visual comprehension (I was out of it),the footpath was fairly dry but with all the rain lately there was mud on the corner. Like Casey stoner I ''lost the front''....but unable to blame my engineers like Casey I'll just have to front up to being stupid.
Dieselspill I believe I need all the help I can get to keep my bikes upright these days There is help for you yet, we are working on it...
Thanks Dodgy. I didn't realise you were so far into that project of mine! Now they'll all want one.
I remember my brother was riding home late one night from the pub and crashed....broke his leg.............I found out because he rang me to transfer his vehicles into my name to stop the cops taking them....or something like that
