Miles has been a friend for a long time. We met at a Guzzi rally and have stayed in touch ever since. We were to meet at the next one on Labour Weekend and travel around the S.I. together with Farmer Peter and then I was to leave my bike at his place and fly down later to do the Burt Monro. Miles was an aircraft engineer of the highest order. When he did things to his bikes you knew it was absolutely top knotch even if it seemed like things took forever. He was an inspiration to me, always raising the bar to what an old school Guzzi should be. His advice was always the real oil, no crap. We will never ride together again, and he was taken from us in the worst way imaginable. RIP Miles, I will have a beer for you when I am down there in a couple of months.
Hey Mike, sorry to hear that you have lost a really great mate and mentor of things Guzzi! A very sad demise for a very experienced aircraft tech. Take care mate, we share your loss.
My condolenses Dodgy, and to Miles loved ones. Only the good die young.
Sorry to hear about one of your great mates, thinking of you and Miles family at this very sad time
sorry to hear Miles was also a biker dodgy...if we ever needed proof NZ is only 2deg apart this is it. you could argue he went doing what he loved, still a nasty way to go. take care mate.
That's sad news for you Dodgy. Really good mates are hard to find. Condolences. From a fellow Guzzi owner.
Ta, it is a great shame that this year the Guzzi community has lost two guys, both of whom were very talented in various eras of bikes. It makes you think what happens to all our bike parts. Hopefully his family will know what to do when it comes to cleaning out his shed. I have always been surprised at what came out of Miles's shed over the years. In my will I have a paragraph to my executer who is a non biker, but Trademe savvy, along the lines of " The bike parts are worth good money, take a photo of each one and put them on TradeMe under the heading Guzzi with a $1 reserve" I have heard so many stories of guys entire workshop contents going in a skip or to one 'Johnny on the spot' and it is a great shame. We collect these things over a lifetime and often what looks like old tools and bits of bike can be worth pretty decent money or the missing part to someone else's jigsaw.
Did Miles ever work at Thunderbike in Nelson? Jeff thinks he has met him before.
always a shame when someone puts so much into it and then it gets thrown or given away to people who don't care. Having a will is the first thing...not many people have one, especially with that detail.
Although Dodgy, I think it would only be fair if current Guzzi owning BFTP members had first dibs.
i like your thinking there diggers.............and yes i believe Miles did work at Thunderbike for a time Sorry bout your cobber Dodgy..............good long term friends are indeed few and far between in my experience and something to cherish
Shes really a bloody small world aye Dodgyiti.Bloody sorry to hear that you've lost such a damn fine mate.
sorry for your loss dodgy... it's not everday that you bond with someone that closely...
