Rural Roads

Had a quick look thru this as we like rural roads, sounds like there are two sorts of accidents..... the vehicle loses controls and leaves the road, the vehicle loses control and hits a passing vehicle.
Rural roads account for more crashes than they should...
Whats the bet they drop rural road speeds to less than motorway ones.....

It referenced a high risk motorcycle paper but I could not find that.

Call me old fashion but "loosing control and hitting a passing vehicle" would seem a fishy to me.

What would be the percentage of roads classed as "rural"? Most of them I imagine. Quite a bit of highway 1 and most of highway 2...

yup... it's already happening from what i've seen... a number of roads (or sections) that used to be 100kmph limit are being reduced to 80kmph... it's by far the cheapest way to bring crash statistics down... "reduce the speed"

I haven't read the doc linked, but there was a consultation document (a chance for objectors to think they are having some input and then the bureaucrats do what they want) out a few months back which proposed reducing rural road speed limits to the 85th percentile speed on that road. Not sure whether that was high risk roads or across the board. Of course once the high risk roads are treated then a new group of lower risk roads can be classed as high risk, and on we go.
On the positive side, my old side valve single is going to have more than enough power to keep up with traffic shortly.

This suggests a focus on the outside of curves, including generous road shoulders, forgiving
roadsides, and surfaces with good friction that are free of debris. Many motorcyclists find it
difficult to change their line once committed to a bend so delineation needs to be consistent so
that a curve is properly read from the approach. Curves that tighten unexpectedly are especially
difficult for motorcyclists.
