Welcome along there Crisis management, we're very happy to have yet another BFTP member joining the ranks. I do sincerely hope that one day you will buy a better BFTP type though, those German things are a dime a dozen around here.
Arrgh. More reinforcements for the evil Reich. The pukka chaps are well and truly outnumbered . And now some of the pukka chaps aren't actually pukka at all . Not saying anything, just pointing out, that it's like having a zip in your Norfolk breeches and then sewing fake buttons on, like. Never mind, muddle through, lose every battle but the last , in the end the virtues of Church, King, decency and proper tea always win through.
Pukka as.... Piccy of Ixions ride and favourite food, and preferred tipple...
hope the new fellas a bit more talkative than cheapbastard
He thinks he's a dirt rider, but he's as much a dirt rider as I am a road rider.
Didn't realise I had to contribute as well as join, you guys expect a lot, I saw that comment Motu, I'll have you know I can crash on any surface with the best of them! Anyway, seems as I should at least give some vaque indication as to why I have bought back into old technology... my basic requirements for a "new" bike were: cheap, simple technology, maintainable with a 6" cresecent & hammer, comfortable to ride and capable of riding on seal, gravel and dry dirt and a bike I would want to keep, not a disposable "thing". Had to be a project to some degree so it became my bike not simply a display of someone elses workmanship, consequently an 83 R80 seemed to fit the bill, it's been in storage for 12 years and needs a bit of loosening up to make go again so this weekend is the "get it to run " bit then it's a list of parts, go shopping, get vinned and on the road for summer. Next winter will be a proper pull down and fuller restoration while retaining the originality of it's patina. Now I know where this group is, I'll check in a bit more frequently. Oh, if you want some background, I'm 55, been riding since I was 15, predominantly japanese road bikes with a couple of commandos, Ducati 750GT's, 900SS, St4 early GSXR1100 and in the last five years off road enduro bikes (I dabbled in trials but ran out of time and Paul's not forgiven me) and adventure bikes. Cheers Iain
My colleague mentioned his friend bought a R80 from Rotorua.....has KTM's ......lives on Hillborough Road..........and is cycling Taupo...... hmmmm could this be the same KTM owner who lives on Hillborough road that I purchased a tank bag for my Darmah from? I know lots on pulling R80's apart....( less about putting them together) and I live about 5 minutes away in Mt Roskill.....when you get your bike I'll bring over a couple of beers and we can mull over it.....
That tank bag was a while ago, you obviously have less senile dementia than me, well recalled! Tell your lanky colleague that I'm still suffering from this bicycle training, I could barely walk this morning, you're more than welcome to drop round anytime, being a self employed layabout sees me here most days. I did actually do something on the bike, ordered bits from the UK... the waiting begins!
Yip. You've gotta love the simplicity of the things. A reason I got dads R80. It'll be nice to see the progress.
I interviewed Crisis managment on saturday as part of his membership review, and learned some important details - like,he has Brembo's.
Is Brembos contagious? I here most people afflicted never fully recover, until the lumps disappear.
