Aka Cycletreads Still reeling from the last visit when I asked for banjo bolts M10 crush washers and got told "Oooo, noo, we don't stock those - you need to get them OEM from Suzuki" - and incidentally I discovered you can get them at an engineers shop... I went there again yesterday... 1 Q: I'm after some sparkplugs, B8ES, please. A: Ok, let me see. We have ONE on the shelf . But, if you need more we can get them for you from the suplier. 2 Q: I'm also after Mikuni pilot jets for BS carbs, size 40. A: Ok, let me see. Uhm, we don't have any. But we can get them from the suplier. Oh, wait. They only have ONE in stock . Do you need more than one? Having got fed up with the parts department I went upstairs for some off-the-shelf products. 1 Q: Excuse me, these knee warmers from Oxford, do you have them in size Medium please? A: Ok, let me see. We do have ONE box left. Here. Q: OK, but, would you have a package where BOTH warmers are the same size, cos in this box one is Medium and one is Small . A: Uhm, sorry, that's the last package we have - BUT - you can have it for half price! Q: What... shall I carve off some flesh of one of my knees so the size Small fits?? (I didnt really ask this, lol.) 2 Q: Now, you had those small digital m'cycle watches from Oxford. Do you still have ANY LEFT in store and if NOT does your supplier have ANY LEFT? (You see, I'm learning to ask the right question...) A: (Can you guess the answer yet?!) - Ok, let me see. We don't have any. But we can get them from the suplier. Oh, wait. They dont have ANY. No, thats not where it stops... The guy says: But anyway, you would be better off just buying a cheap Casio wrist watch, take off the wrist band and just welcro the watch to your bike . No one is going to want to steal that, are they? I'm going there again later this week. Anyone needs anything that I can get for you while I'm there?
You went to an actual shop....
Yes the retail world is full of people hired to work a till and take your money. On the face of it they are not paid enough to supply anything else. Best to do your shopping by internet first to see what you require and the brands, then ring around for the stockists and get them to order in the bits, you can always say no afterwards...and for minimum wage, what do they care?
one thing about scooter shops they tend to have more than one of anything as it takes a few weeks to get from suppliers and there is always the odd insurance write off they tend to purchase for parts
Shouldn't we should be sending you lists of stuff you can't get for us ?
I almost exclusively shop in the virtual world. Even for the clothes (which can be quite tricky given the sizing, materials, etc issues when buying online). But I do miss going into an actual well stocked motorcycle store where you can see "in person" the items you're interested in. In Cycletreads' defence I have to say that for example they have a nice display of four different (vintage style) rear shocks. And some other bits and bobs (mainly for off road bikes though). I like seeing that sort of stuff in real life, not just online.
one thing about scooter shops they tend to have more than one of anything Are you talking about the air filters for example? Cos I've heard they have a tendency of falling off during rides Or does that only happen when in company of bftp machines?
Skootah filters are available at Kerbside Motors
Skootah filters are available at Kerbside Motors nah... i think he tried that one and couldnt find any
I have to say I have never had any issues at cycletreads....I like the shop as they have heaps of gear.......Only thing I don't like is where it is located...
