The results show nitrogen does reduce pressure loss over time, but the reduction is only a 1.3 psi difference from air-filled tires. The average loss of air-filled tires was just 3.5 psi from the initial 30 pressure setting. Nitrogen-filled tires lost an average of 2.2 psi from the initial 30 psi setting. More important, all tires lost air pressure regardless of the inflation medium, so consumers should check their tires' air pressure routinely. No evaluation was done to assess the aging claim. Bottom line: Overall, consumers can use nitrogen and might enjoy the slight improvement in air retention provided, but it's not a substitute for regular inflation checks.
My own "testing" gave different result on my bike, no more than 1psi pressure loss over 5-6 months compared to 5-6 psi on air for the same period Actually I was truggling to contain my laughter reading the comments, I was faily sceptical when we first introduced it but I do think it does offer some benefit, intyeresting to see comments on noise reduction as we've had some commetns along those lines as well when it shouldn't make any difference
interesting results cmoore. i run my tires at 40psi so i wonder what the results might have been had they done the testing at such pressure (and not 30psi) my non scientific results on the pressure retention are more in favour of nitrogen - similar to kickaha's
uhm... just read that article - they say that they "set" the tires outside for testing... so, that means they didn't actually used them on moving vehicles but just stored them ??
yeah stored them outside....summer winter...heat cold....I don't know if it would change much having them on a car.
