We had one of those at RFL with the 680 engine, a couple actually, but I remember one called Invincable. They must have been based somewhere else, but did turn up in Auckland sometimes. Just remembered - I backed over the pump island in it and nearly bowled one of the pumps and bent the vent pipes, I had to use the truck to pull them straight again. We had a couple of Hippo's too, but not turboed - I loved driving those things, that huge engine sitting next to you and making split shifts with the twin stick. We had a couple of Ergo cab Octopus too with Cummins engines and Roadrangers, but I prefered to drive the old LAD cabs. Not that I drove them much apart from around the yard or around the block. They were all out at 50mph - it would've been a long trip to Chch !
My sister borrowed my van for the week and left me with her Corolla.....those Japanese sure know how to make boring cars.....I found a button on the steering column that brings up a cartoon Japanese lady on the TV ( yes TV) screen and a voice comes over the speakers.. Working in an office....on a computer all day.... and driving a Corolla.....me thinks its Norton tomorrow...
