Following yesterdays clutch cable failure.....got me thinking about what tools and spares to carry. This hillbilly dude on the Commando site seems to have it sussed... http://www.accessnorton.com/find-wal...b081854247dfcf
Seems like a reasonable traveling kit, though I question the vernier and crimp tool. Also there are now much smaller more compact replacements for hat big gas bottle. And he has too many screwdrivers and not enough vice grips . But, not a bad start. But where are the spare parts? No point being able to remove the broken bit if you don't have a replacement. And of course, tyre repair kit, rope , knives, nuts and bolts , spare chain links, WD40,oil, kerosene, lighters etc
simpler to carry full insurance with recovery.......
Doesn't cover you off a formed road. And doesn't work if there is no cell coverage. And most recovery services only recover you to the nearest place of safety which still leaves you stranded. And who wants to wait around for hours for a recovery wagon, and abort the trip, for a simple problem like a broken clutch cable that can be fixed in ten minutes.
simpler to carry full insurance with recovery....... doesn't make for very good stories around the campfire.....oh what was I thinking....there are no campfires.....just internet forums...well thats progress... When was the last time anyone went to a camping in tents rallly with a campfire.....me 1995 ish....
Cold Kiwi year before last, we called it the ' Penthouse to the Outhouse ride '. One night in the Chateau, next night camping On the Sat night of Paeroa races we have camped at the DOC sites in Kaurerenga Valley. Still tent regularly while touring on the bikes. You are getting soft Volty.
Not as soft as the rest of BFTP...back in the old days when we used to ride once a month and have the odd rally I camped twice. Slept in the van this year too....liv'n the Continental Circus dream me.
I was looking at expanding my Commando tool kit and got to tyres.... My r75/5 had a great tool kit with tyre levers and even a pump...very handy when your outfit has a flat in the middle of nowhere ..... Anyway heres a cool method of mounting a tyre or in this case tire.
