On the subject of Yammies, does anyone happen to know if the seat pans are the same across the XS650 range ? The special as a side hinged seat and I think the others are rear hinged ? Doesn't matter if I have to change hinges / catches, so long as base itself will fit. A customers got his eye on a seat from Mikes XS but they don't do one for the special.
Cor....how could you trade a 250 Yammy on a poxy Commando... Indeed, the yammy was the only bike i have ever made money on. Bought it for $1200 nearly new, sold it 18 months later for $1600 and borrowed the balance to buy the Norton - and my weekend mechanic training began...
xs650 seat....hinged??....mine (81 XS650) is a lift off.......didn't think there was much of a change in syle after the first XS1 etc...i.e small step in the seat....i had an original 79 special and im sure that had the same seat.....
Yep, this is a '79 Special. Hinged on right hand side. Don't really fancy getting one just on the offchance it fits. Guess I'll either make 1 or modify the existing seat.

I'm after a cafe racer style one. Heaps around for flattrackers but not cafe racer. Had look on UK and Aus e-bay but only general purpose (fit nothing properly!) ones. I'll either make a complete new one or modify the original.
That coming from Mr kETTLE! I guess this means that not all Yamaha's are 100% reliable, darn it there goes my innocence. Still have another any day of the week.
Hey guys me painter/Artiste has made it onto the world stage.Check tis out. He's just finished putting the finishing touches to my badly scarred and beaten rear hugger mudguard. Lost both the right hand bolts somewhere between Wellington and here in February and she belted herself to a nasty mess of no paint and cracks. here she is getting the final touches after a complete remake over!. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmThBWa3MIk
