I like making stuff, its very satisfying to get some material and spend some quality time in the shed making things. I have been looking at a head steady for the Commando as the factory one is two bits of metal with some rubber mounts ....and they are old and perished. However a fancy one is over $200 us and now the blighters want $50 to post it too. We'll that's it....time for Kiwi inginuity....enginuity......thinking.....yep...... .. so scrounged a bit of box section ...I wanted angle but thats what I was given.....trip to Seaco Bearings and the Tool Barn...... Spent about 4 hours and came up with this: needs a bit of finishing off but it will do the job. Thank you internet....oh and the Norton Owners Club.
That looks really good, and yes, I spend a lot of time in my workshop doing stuff and it is rewarding in all sorts of ways. Do you have access to a sand blaster to clean it all up before painting ...if not come over to Western Springs and I can sort it for you. Cheers, Rhys
That sounds good, I'll PM you as I'm over in Mt Roskill.
Lookin good Volty, 4" grinder with one of those flap disc things will clean up & smooth the edges nicely, well nice enough anyway. Got spray painting gear ? Roller starter is with an auto electrician mate getting sorted. No more pushing at Manfield. Well here's hoping Pics will follow
Wow a roller....saves me doing it in full leathers......lucky the Triumph starts first time every time..... I have spray painting gear but for a Brit bike surely you just dunk it in some old enamel and let it dry...
The engine sure moves around when that top mount breaks - but you can still ride them! So if the original on had rubber mounts - where is your flex ?
It can still move up and down and forward and backwards just not left and right. I'm just following the herd.....moooo moooo. Its not like I actually ride it....just take pics and post on the net...
well done volty... i've calculated your hourly rate to be about $70 at present if you don't want that rate to drop, i say leave it unfinished
As Paul McCartney once observed " Money can't buy you love" .....I get my engineer mate to make me stuff but he said " most Brit bike stuff you only need a hacksaw and a hammer to make"
The parts you make for your "Brit" still need to be sturdy enough to stop them being shaken to bits!
Can't beat cast iron.
New/ modified stand , mufflers & starter There goes the neighbourhood. I suspect the boat roller drive is in for a short & unhappy life.
Good Stuff there Trust Me....I'm a bit concerned to see your battery is LUCAS..... So your all sorted for next weekend?
All sorted. Is my backup push starter going to be there ? Look on it as a weight loss program, building up a sweat in full leathers pushing a Triumph has got to be good for you.
