Anyone see anything wrong here? Perhaps here? or maybe this? Motto; NEVER trust anyone else to do shit for you. I'm pretty sure I figured out what went wrong....
Ouch....didn't fit the valve collets properly?
Anyone see anything wrong here? Nope, looks fairly standard for my engines
Thats sucks, is the head repaireble? Bore ok for a another piston?
Nope, the collets were fitted right. Look closer at them....no bump left to fit into the valve groove. I'm 99% sure it coil bound the spring at full lift, at least near as I can measure it seems to. It's about the only reason I can see that would make it strip the collets. Bore is ok. Head is a large paperweight now. But I do have the original head still, it's not 100% but it'll do.
Head is a large paperweight now The head would stull be salvagable though, my Ducati head was damaged as least as bad as that and was about $650 to get done, it just depends on whether it's economic to repair or cheaper to rebuild another to whatever spec that one is
Coil bound due to?......high lift cam?
Maybe, the cams I have have more lift than the stock turbo one's, though they don't really have more than the non-turbo version which shares the same springs/valves etc. I had all the valves and seats/guides etc machined and set up by a machinist, I'm thinking he may have shimmed them up too much. I'm open to other ideas on what could have caused it tho...I may be wrong....
Righto. It is confirmed that coil bind is the issue, the valve beside the broken one has exactly the same amount of travel as the valve lift, as in not enough. So...Ape springs/retainers/collets are on the menu for the next round. And assembling it myself. I'm guessing $1000-1500 should see it running again Hoping to get 1 new exhaust valve, the guy I got 'em off said there may be a couple of extras floating around. What I need though is another head, a gpz750a/early ZR7 one will work with a couple of mods. If anyone knows of any floating around lemme know eh?
