You've read about the wild sidecar antics of Sidecarbob, Scrivy and some bloke from the South Island
well not wanting to miss out on all this 3 wheeled action BFTP now has its own sidecar forum.

    Um, the photo was a setup . . . it's been photoshopped . . . um . . .

Yeah, we're the latest custodians of a sidecar with a long, varied, and fairly uninteresting history. The lovely Mrs Headroom pillioned on a few sidecars at a "Have A Go" day in Taupo a few years ago, and got hooked. She's been keen to have another go ever since.

I had plans to build a BMW-based outfit in the next year or two, but Mrs H doesn't have that much patience even on a good day. This gives us the opportunity to fast-track (heh heh!) our plans, and see where it takes us. I may still pursue the BMW outfit idea in time if we enjoy ourselves, or maybe sell it and take up lawn-bowls or golf if we scare ourselves too much.

Thank goodness you've got the appropriate leathers. New ute coming up as well or will the outfit fit into the work van?

Oh wow - can I have a go?

Has it got a carb missing?

Mr V, that avatar is way too flattering. Wallace is much better looking than me. So is his sidecar outfit, for that matter . . .

UNNA, it probably would fit in the work van, but only if the sidecar was tipped up 90 degrees and the outfit slid in on its side. An alternative must be found. This alternative must also cost nothing, in keeping with the general spirit of all things BFTP. The leathers will be put to good use. I had already given them a leather treatment last month, without even anticipating their eminent call to duty . . .

Motu, are volunteering to come on-board as ballast? Silly boy . . . as for numbers, it has twice as many carbs, cams and cylinders as a proper engine requires. I'm still coming to terms with that aspect, as well as their country of origin.

I've got an angle grinder you can use to turn the Subaru into a ute.......

You have a number of issues to mentally canvass Max, before you even get to the start line

The History isn't quite that uninteresting,it was once owned by Colin Buckley and had an RG400 motor in it, Colin went on to become NZ 1, competed at the isle of man and qualified for a round of the world sidecar champs at Phillip Island (not on that of course) It was down here at one stage with a GSX750 motor in it and quite a few people started on it

No, it has four times as many cylinders and carbs, and an infinite times as many cams and valves as a proper engine . Proper engines don't need all those camshafts and valves . Why on earth would anyone replace an RG400 engine with a four stroke. If he wanted a bigger engine what was wornga with a GT750 ? Rather too many cylinders and carbs, admittedly, but the proper number of valves and cams .

As a wise man once said, "two-strokes run for no apparent reason, and stop for the same . . . . "

No, there's always a reason why a two stroke doesn't run well. The *logic* of the reason may escape us , but the reason is there. Petal, for instance , will never run properly on Tuesday mornings. No idea why, but the reason for problems is simply that it's Tuesday morning.
