a few years back i watched i video bigdave made when he and a few of the kiwirider guys went southwest on adventure bikes to meet up with a wgtn contingent for an overnighter at the awakino hotel looked to me like a good cosy spot on the wild west coast..sadly dave has trashed the video due to a bogus copyright claim to some of the music added, so i cant post it up here but if any of you good folk are familiar with the place let me know what you think roads to and from etc? cheers eddie
I went down to Awakino for chips and a beer at the pub over Xmas...a ride I try to do at least once a year. I ride all the way down the west coast - Kawhia, Marakopa etc. Not much at Awakino except the pub and gas station, gotta fill up there now as Mokau has shut and next fuel is Urenui. Once we pulled up at the Awakino gas station in a power cut, and we had to hand crank fuel into the Kombi.... the power came back on soon as it was full.
not since I was a kid. Have an uncle living out toward the coast . Should really wander over that way, have fond memories of playing in the river and kero tins full of whitebait. blerk, can't stand the fish, but catching them was fun
interestingly enough i was listening to radionz one day and their 'your place' slot was on awakino, and as it was in the same district they focused on mokau also, they have the sound audio of that show on the awakino pub website
