Just watched it - why isn't MotoGP that exciting ? Bleat and moan about the AMA rules, but it sure makes for great racing. What about that 450 race - 5 bikes so close across the line you can't pick who is where! All I can think is that Smith moved to the inside to stop the draught , but was off line and lost speed.
Worth a watch, they obviously work the brake far harder than i imagined. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=2jn83rcV-tQ
I watched that a while ago...and thought maybe someone had a pink rotor. They brought in the rear brake in the early '70's, and yeah, it looks like they use them hard. When I had bikes with rear disc brakes, after pushing hard on a bit of gravel I liked, my rear brake would be smoking, sometimes blue - it's not that I'm too scared to use the front brake, I use that before the corner, but I'm obviously hard on the rear brake during the corner. I used to be concerned about my wimpy riding, but after seeing how much the flattrackers use the rear brake it's obviously a technique I've developed in parallel in my own world. Don't ask me to explain, but I think it's controlling engine braking - too much engine braking steps the rear out too far and you lose control of the rear wheel, with a rear brake you control how much that rear wheel is retarding, and where that wheel is going. Drum brakes I don't notice getting hot, but I don't think I change my style just because of a brake type.
