AHEM... We prefer to see the shine obtained from elbow grease rather than dodgy camera effects - says the owner of the bike still carrying dirt from the Traumanui event.
Dadpole - Today, 17:40 AHEM... We prefer to see the shine obtained from elbow grease rather than dodgy camera effects - says the owner of the bike still carrying dirt from the Traumanui event. Keith......................we'll forgive ya if there's a big hole where the engine used to live!
Wow, what a weekend, good to catch up with Jase and Tyler, Tyler setting a cracking pace on the Norton ES2. Nick and Wendy had a ball on the sidecar outfit, even getting a bit of 'air' and even having time to stop and look back up the track.... The Two BMW 's went good with Adrian setting a new best time of 1.24. I was able to get under 1.30 most of the day with a 1.28. Thanks Simon for the beans, and Wendy for making yummy coffees. Rhys was bikeless so came with the coffee beans. will post up some pics later as too stuffed.
What a brilliant meet. It was like the Classic and Bears weekends from the 80s ( when I was on the committee & organised the track marshals) when grids were full and there was so much creativity to see in the pits. Since changing my Masport lawn mower to have a bit of Castrol R in the fuel tank, I can replicate the smells if not the excitement. Funnily enough my MZ Skorpion is now compliant and they did produce a race version with its own series overseas...........Hmmmmmm! Way more fun than the boxer. But Max has inherited my race leathers and my family would have me certified.
Results. http://files.marktime.co.nz/nz-class...10/26/BEST.TXT The Headrooms set a very impressive 1.32 lap time. I can work out how I got faster lap times over 3 bikes that beat me.....hmmmmm
A very cool weekend. Thanks to UNNA for the coffee beans, and Voltaire for the toasted sandwich maker. Having the pit garage was definitely a big advantage, with weather protection, security, and the added convenience of electricity. Reliable bikes helped to minimise stress, with the weather on Sunday prividing the biggest variable. Wendy & I learned more about the sidecar as the weekend progressed. I'm glad that we had taken the opportunity to spend the weekend at Taupo earlier in the year to get some initial familiarity with circuit racing on a sidecar. The kind offer to race Voltaire's BMW (and the added bonus of a race on Adrian's R90S) at the Hamilton winter series a few months ago enabled me to get acquainted with the Hampton Downs track, which was a big help with preparing for the Barry Sheene. We're very happy with our debut race weekend as a pair of novices.

The MZ will stay compliant for cafe tours. The engine series i( 660 5 valve head) is okay for age but the rest would need a redesign. It would never win anything but that is the fun of building a special. Most of the bikes there only exist for enjoyment and a lot of the riders could not be called competitors. But all that is academic as it is about getting out there and having a big smile on the way home.
