Took the R80st and the Missus up North for a few days, nice mix of Gravel, beach riding, wine tasting and catching up with an old mate from my London days. 90 mile beach dunes at top of 90 mile beach River riding sampling the local cuisine Getting away from the crowds... Syrah or Pinot Noir....real blokes don't drink Rose.. 21st Century farmers cottage
Last time I was at the lighthouse about 1992 on the Darmah one of the guys rode his RZ350 down to it which earned him a telling off from someone who wasn't to impressed, looks like a lot of fun
Awesome fun, did 1200 kms in 5 days, found some great roads, especially the Twin Bridges road, then the gravel/seal section to Maungaturoto.
I'll be able to do stuff like that when my A10/GS is going
It should be a Dalmation vineyard in Northland, and you'd be drinking Rose, Port or Sauterne. But no Dally would build a wine tasting shed like that, so it must be one of the modern money making vineyards. How did the ST go in the sand ? Last time I rode in sand I wondered what the hell was going on, I don't remember having to fight the bike to stay upright when I was a young fulla.
The dry sand between the road the wet sand almost dropped it ( got Missus to get off as expected that) Wet sand was fine, I put it down to the tyres, they are very good all rounders.
What are your tyres?
um..... Bridgestone Trailwings I think.
Don't talk about Deathwings on ADV, you'll get 4 pages of people telling you they are crap you and should use what they use, because only they know what good tyres are. I always liked my Trailwings.
What are you running on the R65, Motu?
What R65 - the commuter or the GRS ? The Gravel Road Special has Dunlop K180 dirt track tyres, the commuter has a worn out Spitfire on the front and a Worn out Shinko 712 on the rear. The Shinko is on the TWI's at 8,000km, I was hoping for more, I'll going to their touring tyre next....more money, and more mileage? The S11 has been on for a long time, I'll put a matching Shinko on there. Winter is the best time to finish off those old tyres.
