People like me - disillusioned by last year and can't be bothered with the same this year. I didn't miss the classic meeting this year....I rode my pushbike both days.
I really can't see what anyone sees in Pukekohe, you can't see bugger all of the racing, the track is very bumpy and there are now fences and concrete barriers everywhere. Fuck knows, HD is a far better track from both a spectator and racing point of view, Puke was a shithole on my first visit in 1988 and hasn't changed since
HD provides no shelter from sun or rain, lousy camping. I have a few mates who will not go to HD but love Puke & after this weekend I can see why. I was not thrilled to go back but I have to admit it has some plusses, I don't believe it is a long term solution , urban spread will kill it , think Baypark or Western Springs. As a place to race I'd prefer HD , As a place for an event , Puke, warts'n'all has a better feel .
Back in the day ( probably Motu) : " This Pukekohe is no where near as good as Western Springs" Not much shelter from sun when your stranded out on the back straight for 4 races and your names not Swallow or Stroud.....
Yay l made it home Thanks for putting on a great show for us Voltaire, Trustme and all the other races. Well worth the trip up from the south ls that photo a reminder that l might've forgotten something John
