good point! might be worth it to contact him for some parts..
To answer first poster, yeah I revinned an FZR last year, they will be picky. Give it a good go over, fix everything that NEEDS to be fixed, I would worry firstly about the mechanical issues, worry about the fairings later, you may need that money for actual inspection items, for example, you will not get thrown out for having a shit paint jo, you will get thrown out on ONE missing bolt for the fairings (I did) so worry about that frst. My advice would be to fix everything YOU can see, then take it in for the test. If it fails you get a list of what needs to be fixed, and you get four weeks to fix those things and take it back, no extra charge. I would invite some local KBers around for a beer and a looksie if I were you, get some other perspectives, and meet some new people!
ah thanks! thats exactly the answert i was looking for. i need new fairings anyways as most of my tabs are broken off, so i'm going to buy new ones. anyone tried fleabay ones? oh and i've got a new engine since there wasnt really any point fixing the old one. but i've stripped it down and removing all the surface rust. do you know what kind of things they checked? because that would give mne a good idea on what to work on the most
Modo There is a VERY good plastic welder I use who can fix most of your busted lugs.
Also please confirm HOW the bike was deregistred. It makes a huge difference if its simply lapsed rego as oposed to written off.
The cost difference is around $400

well i'm not sure, i have all the paperwork. but he said the cam lobes were wrecked and the oil pickup shat itself so he probably just let the rego run.
how is it different? because dont you have to get it re-vinned both ways?
check brake disks are up to thickness (the are big on this)
and replace both sets of pads(will keep them happy)

If it's been written off following a crash , you'll need to get the frame certified as being straight (and forks, wheels etc all in line and so on).
Cost of the certificate isn't cheap. And that's before you start on any repairs to get said certificate.
Thing is with an older bike, often things aren't entirely 100% straight before the crash (hell, briddish iron, things weren't straight when they left the factory - depending on how many beers old Harry had at lunch time). Mostly a VERY small misalignment isn't a big deal, unless you're a racer. But the measuring machines are VERY accurate and will show it up. So then y' gotta get it straightened. Ouch.

ah ok solid. do you guys know where or how i can get some keys cut?
the guy i got it from lost the keys and has a broken key. if i cut it from the broken key its not gonna work becuase they make exact copies. so does anyone know if i can jst take the ignition to a locksmith or something with a blank key?
talk to a good locksmith they should be able to cut it from a number on the bike somewhere
or get them to re key the barrel
ring a few locksmiths they will tell you (not a key cuting service)
