MNZ want trail riding to come under their umbrella

think they need the money to prop up the road racing, just think the number of trail riders out there, just using MR Motorcycles trail rides for eg.

number of riders anything from 200 to 500 sometimes more, get a slice of the money, impose more rules, the list goes on.

Don't quote me thou. I don't really know why or even if it is true.

Mr Motorcycle Trail rides are under the MNZ permits now, it is way cheaper than getting my own liabilty insurance, you do not need to do a MNZ competition licence to ride in them, can you tell the difference between a MNZ trail ride and a non MNZ one?

the MNZ trail ride permit costs me $100, it is the cheapest 10 million dollar insurance policy you can find, the new trial ride comissioner is hoping to get the rules of trail rides more universal which can not be a bad thing. SOme trail ride organizers choose to run under MNZ, i like the fact that there is an organasation to back me up when the bad stuff happens,

MNZ is not a big bad organisation, it is made up of 4800 motorcycle riders,

Yes it would seem they are definitely money grabbing, they will insist that it is for the safety of all and I think they take $3 from every rider, these trail rides are already starting to creep up in price this will probably add another $5 to the average trail ride , the rides I have been on are already as safe as you like and it's up to the right hand to keep it that way, sure ya gonna get the odd hoon trying a dodgy passing manuevour but that'll happen anywhere, MNZ will only ride up prices and probably turn most of the already over worked organisers away, a lot of these rides are organised by mates of farmers and the money as everyone know's is between the farmer and the chosen charity, I tried to enter (for the first time in 10 years on a one day licence) the National VETERAN moto-cross championship last year in the manawatu and was told Na get a full licence $135.00 / so From memory $120 to enter the event /fuel up to north of palmy from welly/accomodation /food etc $450-$500 dollar weekend ! I don't ride competitive MX anymore but wanted to stay in touch with the great sport ,I didn't consider that licence promoting our sport at all. And this is how they will operate the trail rides MORE laws /rules /NOT NEGOTIATABLE.I may have some of these fees wrong but I think ya get the picture, More views would be great !

you are wrong,
the rider levie was dropped 2 years ago, and it only ever applied to races not trail rides,

you have never required a race licience for trail rides,

and i have had a MNZ race licence for 23 years, i have also held drag racing, motorsport and speedway NZ race liceince's and they were more expensive than the $125 MNZ natioanl race licience,

Does that mean that a local school charity ride for example the riders or organiser will have to pay a levy to MNZ? What service would MNZ provide for that levy? I see above it's for safety but how exactly?

Out of interest, what would happen if the trail ride organiser just said "No"? Is there any obligation to work under the MNZ umbrella?

MNZ provides the public liability insurance for the rides, alot of the bigger organisations run there own anyway, you do not have to run an mnz permit,

so with the new levy just put in, i think you will find more rides having there own insurance instead of MNZ,

i know the rides i run will not be held under MNZ anymore, as I can find cheaper insurance of the same level elsewhere, and since all the rides we do are for schools/communities, more money saved is more money in their coffers

you do not have to run under MNZ, and they cannot punish you for running on your own,

its the same as riders can not be punished for riding non MNZ events
