speed will come with experience and confidence. dont be discouraged if you cant stay on the bike all the time or if your getting passed all the time. weve all been there before. just get out and ride as much as you can afford, people from this site are alway offering ways to get to bike parks and trail rides if your parents are too busy to take you. look at here for upcomming trailrides etc...

Hopefully I can find some good tracks in the Waikato.

That's a good way of putting it, building up my gear for MX.

What I want to know is, Can I pull of wicked jumps on trails...? I'm not meaning the full supercross style jumps, just a bit of air...

That would be good to be able to get around... My parents say they don't mind, but my sister plays soccer in the Bay. Are you saying there would be people able to pick me up...?

    Great Community I've found =)

Why are you worrying about pulling off wicked jumps when in your first post you say you cant even ride a bike ?

normally theres natural rolling jumps on trail rides and trails, some resonable and some fairly good with enuff speed on. im sure theres a few guys in the waikato who will teach you a thing or 2 about riding and bike mataince.

Whatawhata mx track. Its a hillbilly as track thats been carved into a gully. $10 to ride all day. I know the owner well and he lets us use his digger and build whatever we want... so there are some larger jumps on it. They are totally aviodable for beginners though. There are little jumps as well.

This is where i ride most weekends.
Has an easy track that pretty much anyone can do

jumps are cool....but you have to have the right bike or your just asking for trouble

if i was you i wouldnt go hear an old 125 2 smoker, {ive had one and there alot of trouble} id go for a xr200 or xr250 until your budget is bigger

XR200 seems to be what everyone suggests. If I was to take this to a MX track, what would I do to the bike in a bad way? I'm not going to for a while, but I'm just wondering.

In other words, what happens when you use a trail bike on an MX track?

Also, before my parents will buy me a bike, I have to have a test ride. Would anyone be willing to let me have a go? Keep in mind I have never ridden a bike before...

mx tracks are bloody scary....i had been riding for over 2 years when i first set foot on a mx track {ardmore} and too be honset it was way scary, because there was 450's and big bikes flying every where....you'd be asking for trouble if you set foot on a mx track right away.......ride around and get used to bikes for a about a year before you start racing around and jumping

this may sound boring but ive seem some novies have some pretty bad crashes due to there lack of expirience

When I ready to have a go, like after I've learnt to ride, and done a bunch of trails. Will it damage the bike? Or just not be as good...?

At the moment I am keen to just learn to ride and have some fun =)

thats the spirit you need to tell me that some times.....

at the schools mx champs a guy was getting about 5 feet of air on a xr250 so that shows its about the rider......but i think he was just realy realy good

    heres what you should do,

get a xr250 and gear, ride it for about a year going around trails ect and whille you doing that save for a better bike and after a year sell the xr250 and buy a 250 mx'er
