    Unhappy

    I think I'm not going to be able to start for a long time... I think I'm going to have to pay for my own bike.

    There is an 2002 XR200 on trademe for $750. I just need to assemble the head (what ever it's called). Buy now $750.

    My dad reckons it's still too much... So until I get a job and save for my bike, I'm not going to be able to do anything. I'll talk to my mum, but I think the answer has changed to no.

    Sad =(

    if you know that much about it, you should probably not even attempt assembling a head of a 4 stroke

    Only if the trader isn't bending the truth a little. He would have assembled it himself and sell it for $1200+ if it was that simple. Complete XR motors sell for around $500 for an average one. It's like hens teeth to find a complete one because the toady gokart boys swept them all up about 5 years ago. They found them good for karts.
    Same as XR250's. Hard to find replacement motors so you have to fix your own. You can get a Lifan (chinese) motor transplant for around $450 for the 200 but not the 250. The lifans are pushrods so performance is lacking but they are electric start. However they are chinese so expect the motor not to last.
    You have to spend money to ride dirt bikes but it is addictive and heaps of fun.
    DO NOT BUY A CHEAP CHINESE DIRT BIKE THINKING IT'S AN EASY IN...YOU WILL REGRET IT.

    to be honest mate it might sound sad but maybe you shouldnt buy a dirt bike just yet......if your budget is that low you shouldnt bother......your dad must nothing about dirt bikes if he thinks $1000 is too much.....because to be honest even $1000 for a motorbike is not enough

    to put it this way, i work full time, my mrs works full time, we dont have a huge amount of expenses, yet somehow we always seem to have no money, usually because its all been spent on bikes, riding bikes, or fixing bikes

    How much per week / per month does this sport cost?
    That bike will not sell for under 3k mate... or so my limited experience in the dirt world tells me... Go the 2 stokes though... theyre actually pretty ballzie. The 2 stroke 125's race in the 250 four class for a reason !

    Hire a bike and see if ur into it first.... I wasnt sure if I'd like dirt bikes, but I like being dirty and trust me theyre a lot more forgiving besides it doesnt cost nearly as much to chuck one down a hill

    I guess I got it wrong then... $750 seemed like such a good deal.

    What would I have to do to assemble a four stroke head and barrel? (Please note the valves are reconditioned and assembled into the head).

    I know what you mean by that. He doesn't think $1000 is too much... He thinks $750 is FAR too much...
