No ride this morning (4 June 2009)

Left the bike in the shed this morning - despite fine and sunny weather. Why?
In a word - ice. Looked at the road outside and it was covered in ice, as were the footpaths. Still ice in shaded areas at 10.00am. So I though "fuck this for a game of soldiers" and let discretion reign instead...

    Yess.....

I had that experience when we lived in Chch. I was quite keen on riding in all weathers (including twice when it was snowing). One morning, it was cold enough to freeze the balls off a bowling green, yet I couldn't understand why it was apparently frost free. Stupid me... I somehow failed to notice how slippery the path outside was (perhaps my brain was frozen?!?) and it wasn't until I ventured out onto the road that I realised this was my first experience with black ice. I was very fortunate that I managed the u-turn back into the gargre without incident. The 4WD was a-slipping and a-sliding, and there were multiple collisions that morning of incautious drivers driving at incautious velocities, but thankfully I was not one of them.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Hey, there was ice in Auckland too. Frucking Fleezing it was. My usual 3 hour low speed ride was a little challenging at times - But still great fun

If it was ice and not just frost then you wouldn't see it in daylight either. I have no hesitation in riding in hard frosts, down to -6C, but any hint of black ice and the bike stays in the shed even if its only -2C.
    Time to ride

Ice in Auckland, bet that's the first time you've seen it outside your gin and tonic

I rode in as usual, fukin heated grips packed up! Didn't see (or feel) any ice but it was the coldest morning I can remember in Auckland. Fixed my grips (I think) but not looking forward to the ride in tomorrow
